Symbolism of a Rose

Why give me a rose?

Especially on Saint Valentine's.

A fragrant rose...

Looks beautiful...

Smells sweet...

But it withers and dies.

The strength it once posess,

Fades into...

Nothingness.

Does that symbolize our relationship?

A strong relationship,

But with time,

Slowly weakens and dies.

Do not give me a rose

On Valentine's.

Better yet,

Give me not a rose,

But a simple kiss.

For I still cling to that fragile hope,

That we'll remain together, eternally.

I want not a rose...

A rose that whispers to me,

Of our once beautiful love...

...Now forgotten...

A/N: This is a little thing I wrote a while back. I was looking at the flowers my grandmother received from my cousins for her birthday, and I just stared at it thinking that it was a pretty crappy gift considering that it'll wither and you'd have to throw it out. Then I thought about the traditional roses that one receives on Valentine's and I was also thinking about my friend's break up with her boyfriend. I was thinking that relationships never last, and since I was doing symbolism in English, my mind just connected "withering roses" and "breaking up", and this is what I got.

So...what do you think? Too depressing for Valentine's day? XD
