Viscaria

The drums call out to the quivering moon,
and we're dancing to their song
knowing nothing but the thrill of fire and strings.
Around and around,
spinning over wilted petals on the ground
The bonfire rages high into the night,
your breathing is harsh, your lovely eyes weary
(And it doesn't matter
ain't no one but you and me now)
we'll keep dancing to the first light of dawn.
...Just one
as the flutes and violins beckon another round
drums chanting, pulsing against the cackling fires
you're whispering but I can't hear
Give us just one taste of eternity

The dance can't last forever, darling.
but know that
when my hand slips out of yours
that final kiss still lingering warmth,
I'll set you free.
