Chapter 1:

Mayu made her way to the dimly lit stage, and sucked in a quivering breath. The sound her shoes were making on the wooden platform beneath her did nothing to steady her poor nerves. This was going to be a big moment for her, and yet, she didn't want to be here!

"Now, for our next performance…The amazing vocal talents of Mayu Keitha!" The Mc spoke up causing a loud uproar from the crowd below the stage. Cheers and whistles, applauds and hoots and hollers came from them, beckoning the black haired teen to slip away from the safety of the other side of the red curtain.

Turning to the side, she gave herself another look over. She wore a black top that went from the left side of her neck, cutting down to just below her arm on the right side. Carefully made, to cover everything, the sleeveless shirt, in her mind, looked hot. It was cut down the show her flat stomach, which ran to her hips, which were then hugged in skin tight black jeans that only flared out slightly at her ankles. On the pockets of her jeans were silver chains, and on her wrists were silver bracelets that shimmered slightly in the dull light of the backstage.

Her thin straight black hair was curled slightly today, just enough to make it look alive, and was draped over her shoulders. Her brown eyes twinkled at her with both nerves and excitement. Turning quickly on the heel of her black shoe clad feet, she listened as she jingled lightly, before turning to the curtain manager and motioned for her to open them.

The woman behind the curtain nodded and gave her a thumbs up, which Mayu took as a 'good luck' sign before tugging lightly on the ropes. Loud screams instantly came the moment the red curtains started moving upwards, even though the stage itself was pitch black, and none could see her.

It was too late to back out now. They already knew she was here. Drums were heard in the background. Just three beats played before the sound of a guitar accompanied it. Sucking in a deep breath, Mayu could hear the dreary sound of the music, and she grinned to herself.

Taking the mic that was being handed to her from some unknown person on the side she grinned and nodded in thanks. Placing it next to her lips she giggled into the mic "Let's get this song started!"

With that the lights flashed for a brief moment at the top of the stage, and a drum solo was heard, sounding as if he was warming up for a great moment. With one final hit of the drum the guitar broke into its own solo.

The girl tapped her foot as she picked up the beat easily, the once dreary sounding music was now picking up pace, becoming more energetic, more fun. By now the drum mixed back in with the guitar and she grinned, knowing it would be but a moment till she would be singing. At this point, she started making her way further up stage, lights turning on as she went, beaming down on her and her alone. The cheers grew louder the moment she was within site of the crowd.

"I've never told you before,

But I think its time now,

To tell you what's in my heart

The pounding,

And the crying,

Is just to much,

How can you expect me to take it?"

All the lights were shinning on her, and half the crowd had silenced to hear the up beat tune of the drums and the guitar and the soothing lyrics of the song the girl before them sang, while the other portion of the group, not knowing the lyrics, opted to screaming the tune of the song.

This caused a bright smile to form on the young singers face as she switched hands that held the mic, thrusting her left arm out into the air swaying her body to the beat of the music happily.

"I'll tell you now…

Everything I've kept inside…

It's simply this…"

The music wailed in her ears, so loudly, that she could barely hear the foot steps of her back up singers running on stage with her. Her heart raced in her chest as she felt the music build up even more then the start. Suddenly she was all the more aware of the group of peers listening, dancing, and screaming to her and her music.

She swallowed a lump in her throat as belted out her chorus, knowing her singers would sing along with her, making the music sound all the more full.

"I know we've been friends,

But can't we be more?

I love you so…

It's killin' me,

dontcha know?

I would give up everything,

Just so you could know,

How I care,

How I feel for,

You and you alone…"

The cheers grew louder and Mayu could feel the blush rise to her face as she brought her arm back down to the side and took in a small quick breath to regain the one she had lost as she sang the latest part of the song.

A quick glance behind her gave her full view of her two friends, Alice and Claire, who each had a microphone in their hands, and smiling widely. Returning the smile, she looked back forward again, and this time decided to dance a little as she sung.

"Now that I've told you,

I want to know how you feel,

And yet I'd rather never know,

To afraid you'd crush my heart, yeah…

I guess im being afraid.

Being a chicken,

But either way,

I will never be hurt,

If you never say a thing…

But I thought you should know…"

Claire and Alice ran up next to their friend at this point and the three of them danced in sync with one another, having rehearsed for this moment for oh so long, when they'd finally be able to sing in front of their peers.

It may not have been much. They may not have been stars… but this moment was enough for them, and it was running freely in their veins, the rush from it all. So much so, they could barely contain themselves.

"So I'll tell you now…

Everything I've kept inside…

It's simply this…

I know we've been friends,

But can't we be more?

I love you so…

Its killin' me,

Dontcha know?

I would give up everything,

Just so you could know,

How I care,

How I feel for,

You and you alone…"

The guitar broke off into its own solo at this point and both Mayu and Alice listened in both shock and amusement as Claire hummed the solo into the mic adding a few 'oohs' and 'yeahs' in there along with the hums. The girls grinned at each other, when Claire opened her eyes and smiled at her friends before they broke off into the final chorus.

"So I'll tell you now…

Everything I've kept inside…

It's simply this…

I know we've been friends,

But can't we be more?

I love you so…

It's killin' me,

Dontcha know?

I would give up everything,

Just so you could know,

How I care,

How I feel for,

You and you alone…"

The music now started to die down and the cheers roared out in their ears, as both Claire and Alice grinned widely before running off into the back of the stage, waving the whole time. Mayu stayed center of the stage, however, as the lights dimmed down. Placing the mic just a little ways from her lips she whispered something into the crowd, before she too, ran off.

Back stage she found her two friends squealing and talking about going nation wide. Mayu could do nothing but chuckle at her two friends. They had only sung at a high school talent show…it was a lot different being in a real concert.

She tucked a lock of her black hair behind her ear and smiled warmly none the less, her thoughts tracking to the crowd. As great as it was to sing for them, she really wished she could have sung only to one person. Was he even in that crowd? She wondered this question and a few others about a certain person, whom had her quite smitten.

"Hey Mayu!" Claire called out snapping her out of her thoughts. "Wanna go get lunch or something?"

Mayu thought about it for awhile before giving her friends a shrug. "I guess. Don't see why not" she replied with a smile. She WAS hungry, and really the only thing keeping her here was the thought of him walking up to her and saying something about her performance.

"We can even ask Lenneth to come!" Alice spoke coyly pushing her elbow into her friend's side, which caused Mayu to wince slightly, before she caught onto what she was saying. In a fevered panic she tried to come up with some excuse as to why he shouldn't come.

"Well you see…" She started only to die out, from lack of response.

"Oh, why deny it Mayu?! We all know you have the hots for him!" Claire spoke, teaming up with Alice in the 'mock Mayu' game.

"Guyyysss!" The black haired girl whined pitifully, clinging onto Claire's arm, in hopes her friends would pity her enough to change their minds. Instead Claire yanked her arm from her friends grasp and grinned happily.

"Sorry Mayu, but I got a boyfriend! Speaking of which…" The brunette spoke looking around. "Where IS Haruko!?"

As if on cue, a tall young man came up from behind the 13 year old and covered her eyes. "Looking for me?" He asked before removing his hands from her eyes and grasping one of her own hands before twirling her slightly, causing her to giggle, before leaning up against his muscular frame, her hand on his chest, her head laying on his shoulder.

Mayu smiled sweetly at the pair, before regaining her composure. Maybe now was her chance to escape! Slipping into the background, Mayu ran along the shadows, hoping not to be spotted in-between the sweet moment of the couple.

It wasn't long before the 15 year old singer was at the door exiting the stage, and she quickly flung it opened and ran out. The cool breeze played with the ends of her hair as she closed her eyes taking in the moment, before running down the path, hoping to get away from her friends. Well the thought of food had been a good one, but the mere idea of having to eat with the one person she could barely THINK around was another thing.

"Mayu?" The call that came out was all too familiar to her ears, and she couldn't help but stop running. Turning around she saw the very male that her friends had mentioned earlier. Lenneth. She gulped back a feeling of despair at being caught, and hoped her face wasn't TOO red. "Nice job back there" He complimented her, with a small smile on her face.

Her knees almost buckled at the site, but she caught hold of herself before pushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Thanks…" she replied quietly. He was probably only complimenting her out of politeness. After all, Lenneth could sing better then anyone at school. Hell! He was even being offered contracts! That thought in itself had her whole mood plummeting down.

She tried to hide her disappointment from her voice as she cheerily spoke "One day I hope to be as good as your singing partner!"

He simply shrugged his shoulder at this, and she sighed dejectedly. Here she was, trying to make a real conversation with the guy she liked, and yet she was failing horribly! She hung her head in a small moment of shame.

"I uh…" She started looking for a reason to leave.

"Hey" He spoke interrupting her, putting his hands in his pockets pulling out some money as if examining it. "Wanna go to lunch or something Mayu? I got a few bucks with me"

Mayu's face lit up instantly and she nodded her head happily "HAI!" She called out, yes in Japanese. The boy before her laughed at her excited state.

"Well, then lets go!"

…that was how the story started…
