"English is an overrated language,"
I told him at the beginning.
"How about another language then?"
he asked in response.
"What other language is there?"
was my jaded reply.
"Well, what language did you take in high school?"

"Spanish, French, Latin."
"You can't speak Latin."
"I took it anyway."
"Spanish?"
"Forgotten in two years."
"French?"
"Failed."
"Completely?"
"Totally."

He thinks about this for a moment before continuing with a half smile.

"What about Italian?""What about it?"
"I'll teach you."
"It's always easy at first,"
I warned him.
"Nothing that's meant to last is easy,"
he replied.

I found I didn't have much of a response.
