It Began, I Left

It Began

With a tight fisted hand

He told me he loved me

And that he was my man

He owned me

Like property

I lost all strength to leave

For I felt I would deceive

He hit again

And again the scars healed

I try to let go

But he instilled fear in me, again

The intimidation

I just wish he'd leave

This power struggle

Closed doors he raised his hand again

Trying to hold on to my self respect

I made a choice

A refused to let him destroy me

I left
