I strolled into my favourite café, ordered my usual iced mocha with a slice of cheesecake, and looked around for somewhere to sit.
The place was packed, unusually so for a school day. I considered my options: one, order the staff to pack up my food and head back outside, two, stay and share a table with some unfortunate soul.
Glancing out the large glass windows, I noted with dismay that large, fat droplets of rain were splattering against the panes. That left option number two then.
"Excuse me," an impatient voice interrupted my thoughts. "Are you gonna move or stay there watching the rain all day?"
Startled, I gave the person a rather annoyed look and turned my back on him, hearing him give a rather loud snort.
Picking up my tray, I weaved through the many tables, hoping to get lucky. Half of the tables were occupied with couples, and one or two had people discussing some work or other.
I was about to give up and head back to the counter when I saw it. One very empty booth at the back of the room.
Wondering how I hadn't seen it before, I hurried, anxious to get to the table before someone else did. Out the corner of my eye, someone made the same beeline for the booth.
I placed my tray neatly on the table, hearing an audible 'click'. Almost at the same time, another tray 'clicked' next to mine. "This is my table," I heard a familiar voice announce rather smugly. Whirling around in frustration, I found myself staring into a pair of silver orbs. Backing up a bit, I took in the boy before me.
He wasn't really a boy, more like a teen stuck in transition from adolescence to adulthood, albeit a rather pretty one.
He was tall and skinny, obviously still growing. His face held slight traces of maturity, which, I may add, was ruined by the fact that he was smirking annoyingly at me, so much that I felt like punching him.
The things that I noticed most were his eyes. They were astonishingly striking, framed with long, dark eyelashes any girl would die for. They were a beautiful shade of grey so light that they appeared silver against his slightly tanned skin.
His long fringe swept across his forehead, falling into his eyes. I had a sudden urge to brush it aside to get a better view of those orbs, but mentally slapped the thought out of my head. Stupid hormones, I thought irritably.
His smirk grew wider. "Like what you see?"
I nearly laughed aloud at his arrogance. Instead, I scoffed loudly. "Uh, please. My eyes are already burning from the sight of you."
Undeterred, he grinned at me. "I know I'm handsome, but there's no need for you to proclaim your undying desire for me."
I reddened as the people nearest to us turned their heads, obviously hearing his obnoxious comment.
"Desire to slap you, you mean," I spat.
His eyes laughed. "I would be delighted to have you whip me, but perhaps later, my dear," here he leaned closer to me, still making his voice audible, "It is such an atrocity to fornicate in public, you know."
My cheeks flushed a brilliant red.
The next moment, his left cheek held a patch of red similar to mine.
"You pervert," I hissed furiously.
Wincing in obvious pain, he touched his cheek gingerly. "If you wanted to go out that badly with me, all you need to do was ask," he muttered.
I kneed him where I knew it would hurt most.
The expression on his face was absolutely amusing to watch. I found a sadistic delight in watching him double over.
Grabbing my tray off the table, I headed back to the counter, cursing him furiously.Chancing a glance to where I'd left him, he gave me a tiny wave, calling out between breaths, "Don't worry, I forgive you!"
I stomped out of the café.
Of all the conniving, arrogant, egoistic idiots, I thought furiously, I just had to meet this one today. He'd ruined my mood.
Pissed, I spent the whole day grumpy. Amidst everything, however, my mind kept drifting back to the incident in the café, and those beautiful silver eyes.
At least I'd never see him again, I thought, drifting off to sleep.
