I dreamt I was caressing you

When you woke me and told me it was time to go to temple

Walk with mindfulness, says the Master

Do not attach yourself to the impermanent things of this world

And I am mindful, but only of you

I am held to this earth only by the terrible weight of my heart

I sit, shifting restlessly, listening to the dharma lecture

My leg falls asleep and I marvel at my lack of discipline

And I realize with sick clarity:

I would rather have love than enlightenment

I dreamt I was caressing you

When you woke me and told me it was time to go to temple
