One Way Street

Walking down a one way street
I decided this is what I need
I don't know where I'm headed
And that's the greatest part

I gave away my American dreams
They really weren't what they seemed
I burned up all my possessions
There is no turning back

He was driving down a one way street
He saw me traveling on my feet
He felt sorry for me
So he said get inside
And he gave me a ride

Onto the highway and into town
I couldn't stand everything around
I wanted to get my feet back on the ground
But I humored him and went along with his scheme

He stared at me in disbelief
I could see that he felt sorry for me
I stared into his eyes and saw his life
I could tell that he was living a lie
I felt sorry for him

I stayed for the night and when I awoke
I found a letter, this is what he wrote:

"I'm walking down a one way street
I decided this is what I need
I don't know where I'm headed
And that's the greatest part

I gave away my American dreams
They really weren't what they seemed
Please take all my possessions
I will not be coming back"

I took my pack and headed out the door
But before I left I dropped a match on the floor
And I burned his American dreams

Now we're walking down a one way street
We decided this is what we need
We don't know where we're headed
And that's the greatest part

We gave away our American dreams
They really weren't what they seemed
We burned all our possessions
There is no turning back

So give away your American dreams
They really aren't what they seem
Burn all your possessions
Or else you will turn back
