The Workers Hardship

by Joseph Edward Gray

It's 4 o clock in the morning

and I've gotta go to bed

It's 4 o clock in the morning

and I've gotta rest my head

I can't go out and I can't have fun

Cause tomorrow morning

works to be done

It's 4 o clock in the morning

and I've gotta go to bed

It's 5 o clock in the morning

and I've wasted time in bed

It's 5 o clock in the morning

thoughts are running through my head

Rent is due, and the market too

Cause tomorrow morning

It won't be threw

It's 5 o clock in the morning

and I've wasted time in bed

It's 6 o clock in the morning

and the sun is coming up

It's 6 o clock in the morning

and starting to get fed up

I work all day, I never sleep at night

I can never have fun in that bright sunlight

It's 6 o clock in the morning

and the sun is coming up

It's 7 o clock in the morning

and the noose is good and tight

It's 7 o clock in the morning

and I've lost this workers fight

Too long of hours, and not enough pay

It can get to a man

That just works all day

It's 7 o clock in the morning

and the noose is good and tight

It's 8 o clock in the morning

and I'm not going to work

It's 8 o clock in the morning

and they'll probably call me a jerk

Until they've seen what I have done

Let them break their backs like a simpleton

It's 8 o clock in the morning

and I'm not going to work

It's 9 o clock in the morning

and I'm hanging above my bed

It's 9 o clock in the morning

and they'll soon know I'm dead

They'll be upset and hopefully unite

I hope my death will let them see the light

It's 9 o clock in the morning

and I'm hanging above my bed
