"Losing Innocence"

A young girl walks beneath a snow-coated elm

And sits to lean against it in the bitter cold

She grasps her ragged doll in her tiny hands

And brushes the red yarn hair with her fingers

She strokes the cotton face and button eyes

And admires the doll's pink flowery dress

She lays it down beside her and stands to leave

And she knows she can never come back again
