The Little Black Door

Jack Trovin has a secret. A dark secret. A secret that would land him in a place like Hudsonville State Penitentiary. Or even a place like Carnation City Hospital for the Mentally Impaired. However, he was too smart to let a secret like that slip out. He wouldn't be caught in this secret. Although if he didn't vent his secret out somewhere. Or tell it to someone. He would go insane. Jack keeps his secret in that room. The room behind the little black door...

The little house on the corner. The quiet haven where Jack Trovin the normal, divorced man lives. He is believed to be a normal upstanding citizen. Somewhat confined and alone, but normal none the less. Well, everyone in the quiet town of Hudsonville sucked that perspective up anyway. Sometimes they sickened him with their simple minds, simple ways, and simple, uneventful lives. Oh, but not Jack Trovin. His life is vibrant, full of life. Not trapped in traditions or routines. He is a smart man. He is calculating and decisive. Jack keeps his secret in that room. The room behind the little black door...

Two years ago Jack was betrayed by his wife. She confessed to sleeping with another man. Jack's rage had consumed him on that day. That seemingly quiet and normal day. His wife had left for work early that morning. She had done that many times before so Jack thought nothing of it. He woke up and realized his Liz had left early. He had smiled with the memory of the previous nights wonderful sex. He was in ecstasy as he remembered his sexy wife moaning in pleasure. Then the phone rang. He got up, grumbling about being interrupted. Then his wife had told it all. He screamed, ranted, raved, and tore all the pictures off the walls of his house. His wife had cried. Jack spoke then in an eerily calm voice. One dripping in suppressed rage and thoughts of revenge. Jack keeps his secret in that room. The room behind the little black door...

Today Jack came home from work in rage. He had been transferred off the Ramsly account. The account he had sacrificed for. The family he had worked for so hard. See, Jack is an insurance agent. He had worked so hard to get this family on their feet again. The Ramsly children had lost their father, and Jack had to take care of the life insurance. But he had to do much more than that. He had to console the family and take care of their sadness. He had just started sending them the life insurance when the tragedy happened. When he found out his wife was cheating. Then a month later she died in a tragic accident. After that Jack was a quiet man. The Ramslys said he had a strange look in his eye since then. They said he talked different and acted strangely. They said Jack frightened them. So they asked for a different agent. Jack keeps his secret in that room. The room behind the little black door...

Jack Trovin came home from work in anger again today. His boss said that he agreed with the Ramslys. Randy Harding, Jack's friend and boss had said he was scared of him. That set Jack off. He had even felt like hurting him. Jack had to calm himself down and stalk back to his office in quiet. Jack keeps his secret in that room. The room behind the little black door...

Today Jack had turned in signed notification that he was resigning his job. Randy Harding asked him why and Jack didn't answer.(Why are people so scared of me? They know nothing of my secret. Hmmm...Guess some people are just rude.) He knew the others knew nothing of his wife's "accident". They knew nothing of the pain she had caused him. He had had to do it. Of course there had been investigations following his wife's death. The police had searched his house thoroughly and grilled him under the lamps for days on end. They finally decided he was not a suspect, though they had taken note of his sudden change in behavior. He was quiet now. His eyes were sullen and cold. Jack was too smart for them. He had hidden his secret well. Jack keeps his secret in that room. The room behind the little black door...

Jack did nothing but watch TV all day. He was so bored he thought he must vent and rest. He must go to the little black door. He went to his book case. The case was just about 5' wide and 1.5' deep. It was a floor-to-ceiling book case that he and his wife had built together. Only he had known about that room. Only he had known about the little black door. It was hidden behind that book case. The book case was seemingly stuck to the wall by glue and grout. But Jack had cut all around the case making a very small seam between the grout and the wall. It was a seam invisible to the human eye. When Jack threw all his weight on the book case and pushed with all his might it slowly inched out of the way reveiling the little black door. The door itself was cleverly disguised as apart of the black wall. It was about half the height of a normal door. It was small and black. Jack keeps his secret in that room.
