Specter

The wind keeps its secrets from me,

For this I am glad,

It's one less thought to make me bleed,

One less tear I've had

-

Love, is too soft a word for this;

Pain, too familiar a word for this;

Where did I go amiss?

O, tell me God, where did I go amiss?

-

So I run in the north woods,

A specter unseen by you,

As I put my soul for sale,

With everything to lose

-

When everything blends together,

I find comfort in pain,

As I become someone lesser,

I saved you from the same.

-

I'm stuck in the crack between black and white,

Good and bad; Heaven and Hell;

Only the stars understand me at night

When I uncover my cunning veil.

-

So I run in the north woods,

A specter unseen by you,

As I put my soul for sale,

With everything to lose

-

In the end, I'm lost forever,

You win.

Take your things and leave me be,

So I can stare at my own sin.

-

I held your hand; I took your troubles,

I cared, I loved; I flew

And now I sit here and grovel,

But I don't dare disturb you

-

So I run in the north woods,

A specter unseen by you,

As I put my soul for sale,

With everything to lose

With nothing left to lose
