Love Like Pewter Bookends

It lies in a dusty corner of the attic,

Left behind by the previous owner.

It fits in with the scenery

So, often, we ignore it.

It holds up all the things

We'd rather pay attention to.

We knock it down, it breaks.

We glue it back together haphazardly.

It holds still, despite pressure,

If it's made correctly.

We pass it on to our children

And as we fade, it's left behind.

Author's note- This was done as a class assignment, mimicking the style of Lisel Mueller's Love Like Salt.
