"I Defy You Stars"

By: Cassandra Freiborg 5/5/06

Walking beneath the blanket,

Its covered in speckles of dust,

Bits of matter that call themselves stars,

Bits of matter I do not trust.

Defeated again, I crumple,

Who am I to flout destiny?

Underneath that blanket,

I'm just struggling to be me.

I yell "Curse and damn the heavens,"

Spit "I defy you stars!"

And they laugh and twinkle at me,

Jesting at my scars.

How is love so wondrous,

And yet it builds such hate?

How can I think my love so true,

That I wish to defy fate?
