"One Breath"

By:Cassandra Freiborg 6/20/06

One breath on an open prarie,

dreams running rampant through the tall grasses,

and trying to control the beat of your own heart,

as it speeds and slows with the wind.

Concentrating on the nothing,

on everything that surrounds you,

the only thing that touches you is air,

you feel its cool caress and your skin tingles.

Eyes closed as you listen for the slightest sound,

waiting for the hunters to set out,

poised, so tense, one more breath,

life or death, hanging in the balance,

that circle of disbelief and disillusionment.

One breath on an open street,

dreams driving rampant down the roads,

and trying to control the beat of your own heart,

as it speeds and slows with the wind.
