Sonnet of a Rose

A red rose in the winter
blooming against natural laws
A splash of crimson regret in the pure white snow
it's tainted beauty consuming any flaws

She's so lost and so afraid
the idea of love is just too surreal
These tears she won't let herself cry
held back by emotions she won't let herself feel

Her ever-persistent suitor
trying to win her over with a song
Says he'll wait for her forever
but forever is only so long

Standing outside her window
telling her the things she already knows
Until one day he, too, is gone
on the frosted ground, a single red rose
