Cri de Coeur: Encore

Chapter One: Who Wouldn't Eat Green Eggs And Ham With A Fox In A Box?

AN: ARGH! I told myself I wouldn't do this. I told myself that Cri de Coeur would be Tom and Harold's only story… BUT THEIR MUSES WON"T SHUT UP!!! And three reviewers asked for a sequel so here's the product of your efforts! Enjoy!

(Tom's POV)

My ten-year high school reunion… no way. I stared down at the official-looking letter in my hands. I couldn't be that old, could I?

I would be twenty-nine in four months. Yes, the letter was right.

"What's that you got there?" a soft voice asked me and I turned around, smiling at Nathan. He was a good-looking man, almost as tall as me with rich dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Nathan played football at NCU with me for the four years we were there, and then we went into business together, opening a bookstore. Books were his passion, not mine, but I was desperate to continue being around him, no matter what. We didn't get together until four years later and now we were engaged. In July we were going to move to Massachusetts, the only state that has so far had the good sense to legalize gay marriage.

"Um, my high school reunion is next week," I said with a shrug, setting the letter down on the table.

"So are you going?" he asked. I shrugged.

"I have no real reason to. I didn't exactly leave there on good terms with my peers," I said. He nodded. He knew everything about what went on at my school. Well, almost anything.

"Still," Nathan said, wrapping his arms around me, "I have to go out of town next week, so you'll be alone anyway. And there must be someone you got along with and wouldn't mind seeing again."

Amber eyes… blonde hair… lithe form…

Yes, there was someone I'd like to see again. Someone I couldn't seem to make myself forget…

"I'll think about it," I said noncommittally. He smiled sweetly at me and pressed his lips to mine for a moment before pulling away.

"I've got to get to the store. I'll see you this evening, okay?" he said. I nodded and he kissed me again before leaving.

(Harold's POV)

"So are you going to the reunion?" Emile asked me. We were sitting on the beach, probably burning to a crisp since we forgot sunscreen. Every now and then I would reach over and flip Emile's green-dyed hair.

Yeah, I bet you're wondering what brings Emile all the way out here to California. Easy. He came back to the states with new hair and a new sexuality. We've been dating ever since. Yeah, I bet you didn't see that coming. I don't think that I love him, but he doesn't love me either, so it's fine.

Anyway, back to the story.

"Why would I travel all the way across the US to spend time with people I didn't like even way back then? They're not wine, I doubt they've gotten better with age," I said. Emile smiled but shook his head.

"Might be nice to see Madame again… I bet she's still there, teaching another group of students who will never reach the level of wonderfulness that we achieved. And of course Natbakka and Tanya are still in the area, they'll probably go. Selena, too. And…" Emile trailed off, looking quickly at me.

"He won't be there, Emile. And even if he were, what difference would it make? He's probably moved on with his life. And so have I." I leaned over and kissed him softly. It was nice to be able to do that without any snide comments from other people. But then again, we were in San Francisco.

"Oh, don't kid yourself, Val. You never moved on. You were still all depressed when I got back from Europe a year after you came here. You're with me, but you want him, and that's fine. Seriously. But don't not go to this thing because you think it'll make it harder for you to 'move on' or whatever," Emile said.

"How do you do that?" I asked.

"Do what?"

"Ruin all of my excuses."

"You're going, then?"

"Only if you do."

AN: I seriously thought about not posting this yet and then working on it while I work on the others. That way it doesn't look like I'm slacking.

On a different note, Blank Canvas is at the bottom of my priority list. I'm sorry to any Chris fans out there, but I'm just not feeling any real drive for it. I still plan on doing it, but don't expect it any time soon.

I'm going to do my replies to reviews from the last chappy of Cri de Coeur here.

rainbowskye: I guess now you know what story I'm working on now! But yeah, Harold and Tom's part in Rose is basically over, since in the chappy I'm working on the school year is over. But this should keep Coeur fans busy for a while.

Artimises Linux: Ah, you flatter me so much! Seriously, I think my ego swelled to about two times its normal size. And that means Raven will have to pop it with a pin. Heh, anyways, I really hope you do read my other stuff. Harold and Tom first appeared in Rose Tints Their World, but that's a sequel in itself, so to understand it you would have to read the others. It's a deadly trap.

Emo Eyes: Yes, there will be an Emile story, but I don't want to ruin any surprises. If you want Emile, I'll share him, but you have to be true to his character. Although I don't think you meant it that way… anyway, please don't die. Because then you can't confuse the hell out of me with your reviews for this story!

Tekia: I'm glad you enjoyed it. As you can see I'm not quite ready to let them go. .:sigh:. Stupid me… I fall in love with my own characters.

DevilDragon of Pain: Yeah, I don't even know if you're reading this, but if you are, thank you so much for your review! It was really helpful and yes, I know the story needs a lot of fine-tuning. But .:dances:. I got a NINE!!! Go me! I'm going to try for a ten this time, but I know I didn't achieve it with this chappy…

Sunk Batch: Harold did want to stay with Tom… that kind of got lost since it was told from Tom's POV… But yeah, it was actually based loosely on me and my boyfriend (he's moving to San Francisco in October). We're not trying for a long-distance relationship. And I write ridiculously fast because I hate to proofread, which is less of a blessing than a curse. But thanks for the many reviews and compliments. They make me too happy for words.

NekoRinChan: You have no idea how much I love your reviews! I can't believe you (and the others) have stuck with me through all of my insane story-hopping. And this is kind of what you suggested with the sequel, but I'm throwing a monkey wrench into things! What do you think of Nathan?

Sakru angelqueen: Much thanks to you, Emo Eyes, and NekoRinChan I have found the inspiration for this story. Unfortunately, that means my other stories got shoved to the back of my binder (I actually have a big-ass binder for the hard copies of my stories) while I work on this. But that's okay because you're still getting updates, right?

The Forgotten Child: The first reviewer for the last chappy! Fun! Oh, I'll bring your InuYasha DVD to you as soon as I can… or you can just get it on Sunday at the cookout. Whatever. Thanks for all your reviews! I don't even have to poke you with the stick anymore! Haha, just kidding!

Heh, my replies took up as much space as the chappy. My apologies.
