I blushed at those words that relentlessly kept repeating in my head. "All I care about is you. It doesn't matter to me whether you're black or brown or even yellow! We're still friends". Feeling a monstrous blush in my cheeks, I leaned my forehead against the window and sighed happily.
He didn't care! He didn't care! I felt like whooping with joy but contended myself with another sigh before closing the curtains and setting the alarm for school tomorrow. I couldn't wait to tell Arma.
Snuggling in my bed, I envisioned his face. Those soft curls with baby, blue eyes along with a kind face, neither ugly nor handsome. I imagined myself standing next to him, as if ready for a photo and a grin lighting up my features as I looked at the camera, swooning with love. I'd take hold of his arm and he'd pull me close and, and…
Just shut up…I whispered to myself almost angrily. Danny just said he doesn't care whether you're black and you're already planning your marriage. Just go to sleep. But I couldn't resist another smile to myself before I zonked out…

"Hey Arma, wait up!" She smiled when she saw me.
"Hey Charlie. Made it out of bed?"
"Only just," I grinned. "God! You won't believe what happened…"
And so my best friend knew all about Danny within seconds. Her expressions changed from excitement to disbelief and eventually to a patronising sympathy.
"Before you say a word Charlie," she interrupted. "Let me just say something. Are you obsessed or what? Okay, this guy says he cares, big deal. He didn't exactly get down on bended knee and propose, did he? And secondly, he's a dork. You've seen his picture. You don't even know him and you claim to be head over heels in love with him!"
"Hey!" I said indignantly. "First of all, I've known this guy for almost a year-"
"Over the net-"
"And he may look a little dorky, but c'mon, who cares? He's got such a romantic personality and I know him pretty well-"
"-Yeah, right. What's his favourite colour?"
There was a pause.
"That's beside the point-"
"Actually it isn't. And another thing, hasn't he already got a girlfriend?"
"Well, yeah but-"
"He's taken Charlie. Why don't you forget about him and go after someone else? Danny, the-love-of-your-life lives all the way in America and he's almost five years older than you-"
"Charlie!" She looked at me severely, her glasses magnifying those brown eyes. "Get over yourself!"
"You heard. The disadvantages don't seem to be working so it's time to be severe and firm. You will not fall in love with this guy. I repeat, you will not."
"Arma-" The first whistle blew.
"Charlie, I don't even know what you're thinking," she shook her head and walked towards the students lining up. "This guy could be a paedophile for all we know. And love is too strong a word. You've just got a crush on him or you're going through a phase. We have got to get you a boyfriend before you embarrass yourself further or get even more desperate."
"Arma!" I shouted indignantly.
"C'mon," she grabbed my arm. "We'll talk about this later."
