- does last chapter dance -

I really liked this. It was fun. And it's got a ton of reviews.

Enjoy.

"Fletcher." Miranda sounded surprised as my head landed on her feet.

I just stared up at her, thanking Kyoonyt's gods that she was not wearing a skirt. "You love me," I said, laughing. I must have looked drunk. "You love me!"

Her eyes changed. "You heard that?"

I stood up, my smile gone. What if she got angry with me again? The look on my face showed her how guilty I felt without my having to say anything.

"How long have you been out there?" she asked.

"A few minutes," I replied honestly. The prophecy was in my head again, providing gentle nudgings instead of a full-fledged attack.

"Do you eavesdrop often?"

I shook my head. "I-I needed to be near you." It was the truth. I hoped she understood that. "Look, Miranda. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I never wanted to hurt you" When was the last time I had apologized to someone?

She watched me, her eyes questioning. "You still lied."

"I never told you I wasn't the other half," I said, wondering where the words were coming from. "You only assumed it."

"You said you were looking for him."

"I was. It was just me the whole time. And I found him." I glanced at the carpet. "Miranda, I am in love with you. You are my other half."

"Cut it, Fletcher." She pushed past me out the door and headed for the kitchen. She did not believe me.

"It's the truth, Miranda," I argued as I followed her. "I don't want to lie to you anymore."

With her head in the refrigerator, she said, "It's a lot easier for you to say than for you to do."

I stood in the entrance to the kitchen and stared at her. It was evident in her voice that she was trying her hardest not to give in to me. "If you don't trust me yet," I said, "then I'll leave you alone until you do. If you're just trying not to love me, then you are as much of a liar as I am. I'm not going to force you into anything."

Straightening empty-handed, she fixed her eyes on me. "That's nice of you."

"I want to know one thing, though." Before she could stop me, I stepped up to her and kissed her. No prophecy. I could not even feel it anymore. And if it was gone in me, it was gone in her.

Again, we found ourselves lying on my bed. Miranda had been lying. She did love me. She loved me more than anything. But she had been too frightened of what the future may hold for both of us.

"What's going to happen now?" she asked me as she traced my ear with her finger.

I imagine my grin was less smug than it had been the last time we had made love. "We're going to have a baby."

"I know. I meant about us and Ben."

"Junhfar is going to protect us," I explained. I had forgotten I had not told her about my phone call. "We're going to go to a safehouse until you have the baby."

"Then what?" She rested her head on my shoulder and I wrapped an arm around her.

"Well, I'm planning on marrying you, then we can raise the child to fulfill the prophecy." Weeks before, I never would have thought the first six words would come out of my mouth in that order.

Miranda grinned, and lifted her head to kiss me.

"I remember running through the wet grass
And falling a step behind
Both of us never tiring
Desperately wanting"

I'm willing to bet some of you are going to go, "Is that it?" Well, if you'd like to see it go farther, say so. I can write a sequel. But I doubt you'll want one, so...

Please tell me what you thought of this story. 1-10, 10 being the highest.

I would like to thank all of you for reading this and reviewing, especially Sam, who reviewed nearly every chapter separately and flooded my AOL inbox with "Review Alert!" E-mails that I mistakenly read backwards and confused myself with...

The next chapter will include all the songs mentioned in this story. I do not have any art of Fletcher and Miranda yet, but I have ordered some. When it comes in, I'll add a new chapter telling you where it is.

Thank you again.
