The Phil & Lauren Story
One day as Maia Luthi was opening the door of her house, a surprise greeted her.
Mrs. Luthi walked forward and hugged her close.
"Um…mom, what's going on?" she asked, slipping off her backpack.
"Nothing, I'm just saying hello," Mrs. Luthi said.
"Kay…" Maia said uneasily. "Where's dad?" she asked.
"Oh, I think he's doing something in the garage," she said.
"Alright, well, I'm gonna go see what he's up to then," she said, slipping away cautiously. Once Maia got to the garage, she saw her dad packing bags. "Dad?" she asked.
"Hmm?" he asked. Then, he lifted his head up. "Oh, hi Maia. How was your day at school today?" he asked.
"Uh…" she blinked a few times, "it was fine. Why are you packing bags?" she asked, curiously.
"Oh, your mother and I are going to be leaving for awhile," Mr. Luthi said, standing up and crossing across the garage.
"Why?" she asked, confused. "I mean, where are you going anyways?"
He just shrugged. "I can't really say," he said, and then he headed towards the house.
"But…dad!" she said, running after him. "Who's going to be here while you're gone…and what about Gabi…and…I mean—" she was cut off. Mr. Luthi went inside the house and appeared to be talking to his wife for some time. Then, they both came out and headed for the car.
"Good-bye Sweetheart," Mrs. Luthi said, kissing her daughter's cheek.
Maia rubbed the kiss off. (As if you can do that.) "Where are you going?"
"Away," she said, patting her head and going out the door. "Didn't your father tell you?" she asked, looking up at him sternly.
"Well…yeah….sort of…but…" she said, confused.
"Well, then everything's fine. You'll be alright. We just need to…uh….do some shopping!" Mrs. Luthi exclaimed.
"Shopping?" Maia asked.
"Yep! In New York City…L.A…..and um, the moon!" Mr. Luthi exclaimed.
Both girls looked at him and rolled their eyes. But soon enough the two parents headed towards their car. Maia grabbed the edge of her mother's coat. "Don't go, mom. Who'll be here in your place, while you're gone?" she asked, worriedly.
Mrs. Luthi smiled. "I love you, sweetie," she said, hugging her and then she hopped in the car.
"Bye!" Mr. Luthi said, blowing her a kiss from the car.
"When are you coming back?" Maia shouted.
They didn't answer.
"But who is going to stay here in your place? Who are my parents going to be?" she asked. Laughter was heard by the couple, as they screeched off into the sun. Ben Luthi then came in and stormed to his bedroom. "Ben?" Maia asked.
"I'm looking at myself! Leave me alone!" he shouted, slamming his door shut.
Maia fell onto the couch in the living room. "So…who are my parents?!?" she asked, in frustration. Suddenly, a popping noise was heard followed by the slow strolling in of a familiar, tall figure. He was holding a German newspaper.
"Oh no…" Maia said. "You've got to be kidding me." Her head lifted up.
The newspaper flipped down, and a wide grin spread across his face. "Hallo, Maia," he said in the slowest way known to man. Yes, it was him.
"Phil?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. Then, she burst out in laughter. "So, who's my mother?"
"Hmmm…" he pondered, tapping his pointer finger against his chin.
"Oh my gosh!" a scream was heard from down the hall. "STAR WARS is on T.V.! Right now, you guys! Come in here! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is awesome!!!!"
Maia's eyes went wide. "You married Lauren?" she asked, ready to slap him if she so desired.
Phil shrugged. "Yeah, I guess so," he said, dropping the newspaper on the floor and snatching a hand full of M & M's from the coffee table.
"And how did that happen?" she asked in desperation.
He shrugged again. "I don't know…it just happened."
"Where did you get married L.A.?" she asked.
He shook his head. "Nope. Chapel!" he said, with a wide grin.
"Chapel?" she asked. "Where is that?"
"At school…duh…" he said.
Maia fell back on the couch. "I can't believe this…" she muttered.
Suddenly Ben came storming from his room. "I'm hungry!" he growled.
"Order a pizza…" Phil said, finishing up a yogurt and licking the spoon.
"What does mom want?" Ben asked.
Maia's mouth dropped. "You do realize that you're calling Lauren mom, right?"
Ben appeared confused. "Huh?" he asked.
"She's only 16!" he said.
"Hey! I like 16! Das ist gut!" Phil said, opening the fridge again.
"Mom!" Ben called.
"Yeah?" replied Lauren.
"What do you want for supper?" he asked.
Phil mouthed "pizza" rapidly, while crossing his eyes and shaking his head.
"PIZZA!" she shouted.
"I told you so," said Phil. "I told YOU so…haha."
Maia rolled her eyes. "This is too much…"
