The Little Girl

Once upon a time, in a place not so far away

there was a little girl, without a care in the world.

She couldn't read the tragedies the newspaper told,

couldn't understand the bad language on TV,

and didn't know what war meant because she thought everyone just got along.

She didn't see the poor people starving everyday,

She didn't see the sad drowning in their tears.

She didn't hear the cry of the babies killed everyday.

All that she knew was how to sleep, eat, pray and play.

Well now this girl is almost grown, as she sits with her family and friends,

watching the news show pictures of war-torn Iraq and the insurmountable damage of the Tsunami.

She realizes her generation is going to have to deal with all these things and more.

Now she's looking back on those old days and wondering where they went.
