Phillis Wheatly

Phillis Wheatley.

Earned her name.

Born In Segal, Then enslaved.

Bought as product, on the market She learned to read, to form her fame.

Poetry was her wa)l,

It changed her life forever.

She even wrote a book,

and went to England.

She was friends of many.

She earned her freedom,

From her Poetry.

Freed by knowledge,

Freed by the fruits of her pen.

She married and produced another book.

Then she died

Because she didn't have the favor, of whites alike.

I dedicate this poem to you,

Americas First, "Little Black Poetess"
