A/N: Ok, so shoot me. I have a tiny confession to make. I wrote this a while ago, ummed and aaahed over whether to post it or not, but now I've decided what the heck. Besides, now that I've written the first chapter of Raphael's story, I needed something to prod me into continuing with it. This is just basically the archangels puzzling over the concept of love. It can be read seperately to the story I guess. Very short, mostly speech, but hey, I couldn't let my baby go without a fight! Anyway, enjoy, I guess :P

Another Bit

The light was dim in the library, a minor annoyance to the archangel seated at the main table. He was surrounded by books, scrolls and many singular bits of paper, all written upon in various languages. Occasionally, he would mutter to himself and scribble a short note, but apart from those small interludes, the place was silent.

Until the entrance of his sister, that is.

The doors flew open with a bang, startling the seated archangel so much that he leapt up in surprise. The chair crashed to the floor as paper, ink and books flew everywhere and scattered. For a brief moment, as wayward sheets of paper spiralled leisurely past his face, he could only blink in shock at the chaos he was now swamped in.

'Uriel! Have you heard?'

It took just that small question from the source of the disturbance to turn his stunned look into a fully annoyed glare.

'Gabriel,' he snapped, turning to right the toppled chair. 'This better be important.'

Oblivious of her brother's irritation, she leapt forward and threw her arms around him. 'It's so wonderful! Michael, our bother, in love! And she loves him back. Isn't it so great?'

Uriel rolled his eyes as his sister squeezed him half to death. 'All that drama Gabby, is it really necessary?'

She looked up at him with a pout. 'But its good news. Aren't I allowed to be excited?' She then caught sight of the mess. 'Yikes. What were you doing?'

Uriel groaned and gently knocker her head with his fist. 'I was trying to research why this has happened, why an archangel has fallen in love.' he explained, gathering up the papers. Gabriel assisted him.

'In the demons' language?' she queried, looking at a scroll. 'Uriel, love isn't evil.'

He shrugged. 'I thought anything would be worth a shot. To be honest Gabby, I really don't understand it. It's driving me slightly mental.'

Gabriel settled her knees under her and frown at the document she was holding. 'Maybe… maybe it's best that we don't question it.'

'Question what?'

A new voice joined them, causing the two archangels to snap their heads around. Edging in through the doorway was Raphael, who, for once, had a serious expression on his face. He made no comment about the mess, but came and knelt with them.

He looked Gabriel dead in the eye. 'You were talking about Michael, weren't you?'

Shocked by her brother's seriousness, it was all she could do to nod. 'Yeah. What's wrong, Raphy?'

He looked away. 'I… I'm happy for them, I really am. But it just makes me wonder…' When he met her gaze again, she saw a hint of sadness swirling in a sea of what could be called longing. 'Gabby, it makes me want things that I know I shouldn't.'

'What are you talking about?' Uriel grumbled. But Gabriel's eyes filled with tears and she threw her arms around her brother.

'Oh Raph, it's ok, I feel the same. Somehow, some kind of emptiness has appeared inside me, and it shouldn't be there.' Raphael nodded and hugged his sister back.

Uriel snorted, and continued to gather papers and books. 'You want to know what I think? I think we're all imagining this.' He began dabbing ink off scrolls. 'There's no evidence anywhere of this ever happening to anyone of our status. We can't feel emotions like love. That's the end of it.'

Gabriel glared at him. 'We're not robots, Uriel, we do have emotions. We just don't know how to show them very often.'

The archangel of Earth scowled and raked a hand through his hair. 'This is all so confusing. It shouldn't be logically possible.'

Raphael shook his head. 'Uriel, I really don't think it has anything to do with logic.'

For a long while, all three were silent. Uriel, ever the sceptic, was so unsure that what had happened was real. The Lord's Word is not to be argued, he thought. If He intended us not to feel strong emotions, then that's the way it's meant to be. So why can't I make sense of this??

Gabriel on the other hand, was sure that what Michael and Clio were feeling was real. Her thoughts were occupied only with hopes of finding her own special someone one day.

And Raphael… He knew that this empty hole in his heart would take some time to get used to. He felt like a part of him was missing, and felt compelled to fill the void that it left. It was safe to say that this was the strangest sensation he had ever felt. Something deep inside him was clamouring to be loved.

'So…' Gabriel murmured into the silence. 'What do we do now?'

'I'm going to keep researching.' Uriel rose and dusted himself off. He winked at his sister. 'You know when things don't make sense I get edgy. And you,' he said, gently nudging his brother with his foot. 'Any other day I'd praise the Lord that you're quiet. But don't let this get you down too much, ok?'

Raphael mustered up a grin. 'Don't worry. I'll be annoying you again in no time. I'm just an oversensitive git is all.'

Uriel rolled his eyes as Gabby laughed. 'You said it, not me.' He pulled them both up with a grin. 'Now, lets go somewhere shall we? Just for a change of scenery for a while?'

'Sounds great. Shall we ask Michael and Clio?'

Raphael grinned at his sister and slung an arm over her shoulders. 'Gabby, I think they're fine on their own.'

'Oh, but surely…'

He leaned down and whispered in her ear. Her eyes widened and a blush spread across her face. 'Oh, my…'

With the brothers laughter echoing throughout the room, the three walked out the house. Someday, some how, another one of them was bound to fall in love. It was just a question of who was going to be next. But none of them could guess what the future would bring, so they may as well welcome it with open arms.
