our shadows go before us
as we turn against the sun
of its brightness we are fearful
but its rays we can't outrun
its beauty burns and blinds us
as we mimic what we lack
impeccable facades
in exchange for blistered backs
those of us who cower
in front of higher men
with shadows are we intimate
and sunlight never kenned
but those who stand above the rest
and try to reach the sky
will gladly burn their hands
if some truth they may espy.
