Standing Still

There is no more security

My world is colliding with

What is real and what I can't hide

Is what I can't stand

Things are changing

And I'm standing against the times

Over all these years I haven't changed

I'm only slightly taller

As the skin under my eyes turns dry

Leaving a red stain on my face

There is no sympathy that I want

But there is much that I need

People my age when I was born

Are so very old to me

As their looks begin to sink

And everything fades

All I've ever wanted to do

Is stand perfectly still

To let all I see wash over me

To be higher than the Sun

But I know that to be higher than the Sun

Would only cause me to look further down

And see what made me want to escape

And envy those who embrace it
