Do you know how hard it is?

To walk down the halls

And keep a straight face

To not lash out at people

Every time they laugh

Or every time they joke

About things that hurt others

About what makes the mind sad

About things that matter most

-

Do you know how hard it is?

To live a normal life

When others are being injured

Every moment of my existences

Someone is wounded

And someone is beat and now they are crying

Is it possible to cackle and hoot?

Is it plausible that we can still smile?

While others are dying

-

Do you know how hard it is?

To write a poem

About what others decide to ignore

To inscribe the horrors

To put down on paper the terrors

To realize our blindness

And pull back the curtains

Take off the mask

And finally throw away our shyness

-

Do you know how hard it is?

To wish and wish

But know it will never happen

To imagine a world of peace

Think about and desire this make-believe idea

But know it will never come about

We can work all we want

Yell all we need

Become hoarse because you shout

-

Do you know how hard it is?

I don't think so

You don't really recognize

What it is to be here

Be here and write

About what others don't know

To make people forget

About what they believe

To make them disregard the old show

-

Do you know how hard it is?

I bet you never considered

What it is to be bold

And write about these things

And convince others to rethink

About their lives so far

To keep going and never give up

Even though people pay no attention to you

But I guess that's just how things are
