Poetry is not

meant to be placed within walls

or the words spill out

-

-

boy, the stars shine bright

when they're reflected in your

lifeless plastic eyes

-

and boy, comets fall

when you speak and only ink

comes out and stains your

lined-paper lips a gorgeous

purple like the last sunset

-

-

And the poetry

stains their love surely as he

stains her innocence

-

-

little puppet boy

please can I play with your strings?

oh no they are snipped

-

-

winter will arrive

and warm us with its tales of

a love gone awry

-

-

the rules of haiku

are broken as if they were

actually here
