the planets pass her by, smirking in a smoky sky,

she lets out another sigh, another attempt, another try.

the train lets out a scream and she can't let off steam

because everyone's watching, they're all catching

her frantic glances with eyes of steel,

waiting for her to settle down and kneel.

in her swirling head she swears, she's trying to tread

water but her heart is lead and she cares, she tears,

she's splitting hairs to explain his

disappearance. she's cain, killing the world

with pain. and in her imagination she's dragging

fingernails down the glass, she's sagging under the weight

of her scars, lagging behind and sticking to the fire of stars.

the planets pass her by, smirking in a smoky sky,

and she starts to cry, another simple lie,

and he's gone, she's wrong:

the people hate her con, her pitiful song,

she makes the journey too, too long.

in her swirling head she swears that she cares

but she tears and stares with blank eyes,

can't find the ties.

she's dragging fingernails down the glass,

sagging under the weight of the past,

lagging and staying back, she's last.
