Allison Logan, that's me, better known by my friends and family by Ally, led an average life. I lived in an average one story house, in an average city in an, average state. That was until my parents decided to set up an arranged marriage for me with someone who I had never met. Needless to say my life wasn't so average anymore.
Hi! My name is Allison Michelle Logan, but I prefer to be called Ally. I have an average life, with average friends, an average family, and well I'm just plain average, and I'm okay with that. Well that's how it used to be. Hmm… Where should I start? I guess the beginning is a good place. Okay so here is how my life became not so average.
It was an average summer day. The sun was beating down onto the earth turning the remaining green blades of grass into a dull brown. I was outside laying out trying to get a tan. The keyword here is trying. I was peacefully sprawled out on a lawn chair in my adorable pink and white striped bikini in my backyard soaking up every bit of sun I could get. I had graduated two weeks earlier from Bloomington High school and right now I was daydreaming about all the cute collage guys I would meet in a few months.
My daydreams were interrupted by my mom calling me inside from the back door. I sighed as I got up not wanting to come in out of the warm sun. I walked through the squeaky backdoor and into the cool kitchen. My feet on the cold tile floors, I grabbed a glass from the cabinet and filled in with water. I sat on the counter and swung my feet lazily back and forth listening to my mom talk.
"Ally go upstairs and get ready for dinner, we're having some guest over so try to look nice." She said as she stressed the word nice.
I shrugged my shoulders as I jumped down from the counter and finished my glass of water and placed the glass into the dishwasher. I walked down the hallway to my room, my feet slapping the hard wood floors. I entered my average sized room, which I had decorated with light pink walls and beige carpet. I noted the dark pink nail polish stain on the floor and smiled. My parents had gotten so mad when they found it under a pile of clothes three years ago.
I grabbed the remote to my stereo and pushed the power button feeling my room with the sound of the 'All American Rejects' 'Dirty Little Secret.' I walked okay well danced over to my closet to look for something to wear. I sorted through a couple outfits before I found the one I wanted to wear. I stripped out of my bikini and put on a pair of pink lacy boy short panties along with the matching pink lacy bra.
"Thank you Victoria's Secret." I said aloud to myself.
I put on the outfit I had selected which consisted of a pair of faded low-rise jeans and baby blue polo. I slipped on a pair of white flip-flops and grabbed my hairbrush. I had intended on brushing my hair and putting it up in a ponytail but instead I decided to use it as a microphone when '1985' by 'Bowling for Soup' came on. Dancing around my room I lost all track of time. When I finally stopped I caught a glance at my clock and almost had a heart attack. Its bright red numbers were glowing 5:51. Dinner was at six. I quickly threw my hair into a messy ponytail and quickly applied some light mascara and clear lip-gloss.
I ran out of my room and smacked right into my mom. This caused both of us to stumble back, her hitting the wall, and me hitting my door. Her mouth dropped when she saw what I was wearing.
"Ally! I told you wear something nice!" She yelled in a frantic voice.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" I asked as I looked down at my outfit. I thought I looked fine.
"When I said nice I meant something like a nice dress!" She screeched as she pushed me back in my room.
"Why?" I asked confused. It was just dinner.
"Just change into one of your dresses and for God's sake wear some heels and take your hair down! Quickly!" She yelled before shutting my door.
Grumbling I walked over to my closet and glanced through my GIANT collection of dresses. Please note the sarcasm. I had a total of three dresses. One was the midnight blue one that I had worn to the prom, the next one was Halloween costume from last year, and the last one was a plain black spaghetti strap dress. I removed the black dress from my closet and tore off my previous clothes. I threw my bra to the floor and grabbed my strapless one. I grabbed my only pair of black heels and slipped them on my small, dainty feet.
I walked over to my mirror and took my hair down running my fingers through it to comb it out. I looked into the mirror to see the finished product of what I called me. I saw a short petite girl with her brown hair hanging freely around her shoulders, curling slightly at the ends, and a pair of almond shaped eyes dark brown eyes that shone in the light. I quickly brushed some light pink blush on my cheeks and walked out of my room wobbling on my heels.
My parents were both running around like two chickens with their heads cut off. My mom was in the kitchen trying to prepare the perfect meal, while my dad was pacing back and forth in the living room stopping every time he passed the mirror that hung on the wall to straighten out his red tie. I walked into the kitchen to see if she needed any help with dinner. She was running back and forth between the dining room and kitchen with various dishes.
"Mom you need any help?" I asked starting to pick up a plate.
"NO! I don't want you to get anything on you!" She screamed as she wrenched the plate from my hands.
"Okay." I said giving her a weird look before walking out into the living room where my dad was still pacing.
"Hey dad." I said as I flopped down on the couch.
"Oh. Hi sweetie." He said straightening his tie for the 1,743 time.
"Dad the tie is fine." I said with a small laugh.
This seemed to relax him. That was until the doorbell rang and my mom came rushing into the room yelling at me to get off the couch because I would wrinkle my dress. I rolled my eyes but stood up anyway. I had just finished brushing the imaginary lint off my clothes when my dad opened the door.
In came three people, none of whom I knew. The first was a tall man that looked to be in his mid forties, he was wearing a pair of black dress pants with a dark blue shirt with a black tie. He greeted my father by shaking his hands and patting him on the back then he moved to hug my mother. The next person that had entered my house was a woman that looked to be the same age as my mother. She had platinum blonde hair that hung about her shoulders and she was wearing a white dress that reached the ground.
The last person that entered was a complete and total hottie! I swear this guy was like an abecrombie model! He had dirty blonde shaggy hair, and he had the most gorgeous light blue eyes. He was wearing a pair of black dress pants as well and he had on a dark green shirt with a black tie.
"Oh Ann it is so good to see you again!" The woman squealed in a British accent as she embraced my mom.
"It has been too long." The man said to my father.
The only thought that was running through my head was who the hell were these people and how did they know my parents? Okay I'll admit I was also thinking about how hot the guy was!
"Ally, come here there are some people we want you to meet." My mother said as she motioned me over to the small group.
I quietly walked over to the group of people who were now at this point all smiling at me, except for the hottie who was smirking at me. I didn't like him looking at me like that. It was like he had a secret, and was proud of it.
"Oh my Ann is this Allison?" The woman asked as she walked towards me.
"Yes. Allison this is Mr. and Mrs. Dashwood, Richard and Hilary and their son Sean." My mom said as she steered me in the direction of the Hilary.
She had this gigantic smile on her face and she kept staring at me. She turned to my mother and looked like she was about to cry.
"She is so beautiful." She said in a teary voice.
"Well I have to say that your son is a very handsome young man, how old are you now Sean?" My mom questioned turning to him.
"I am nineteen now Mrs. Logan." He said as he smiled. He like his mother had a strong British accent.
"Ah. Well Allison is seventeen. She just graduated." My mom stated proudly.
"Shall we have dinner now?" My dad questioned as he led us into the dining room without waiting for a reply.
We walked silently into the dining room and sat down at the table to eat what my mom had made for dinner. Somehow I ended up sitting next to Sean. It was kinda weird; he kept looking at me like he knew something that I didn't. And he wouldn't wipe that stupid smirk off of his face! I wanted to heave a forkful of mashed potatoes at him just to see that smirk gone.
Throughout the entire dinner my parents happily chatted with Sean and his parents as I sat there bored out of my mind. Every once in awhile I would catch one of the adults leaning over and whispering to the other. Then they started to whisper to Sean. I felt like they were sharing a secret and it was about me. Like they were spreading a rumor.
Finally after everyone was finished with their dinner I excused myself to go the bathroom. I got up after promising my parents I would come back. I went down the hall and closed the door to the bathroom. I turned the lock to and looked into the mirror.
"What are they talking about?" I asked my reflection
"Are they talking about me? And why does Sean keep looking at me like that?"
After reassuring myself that it was no big deal I exited the bathroom and returned to the dining room to find all the parents talking excitedly and Sean sitting exactly where he had been; still smirking. I walked back over and took my seat next to him.
"Allison, we have something to tell you." My dad said standing up from his seat.
"Okay." I said as giving him a weird look.
"We, and I mean all four adults, have taken this into great consideration." He said as he stopped and looked at me.
I didn't like this, he was stalling and everyone kept staring at me. He cleared his throat and then continued.
"We have decided that you are going to marry Sean." He said this and then finished with a big smile.
I sat there confused and let everything sink in. He had just said I would be marrying this complete stranger sitting next to me. It wasn't April so this couldn't be an April fools joke, but this had to be a joke. I burst out into a fit of laughter, which gained me several questioning looks.
"That is pretty funny you guys but you do know that it's June not April, you're a little late for an April fools day joke." I said as my laughing subsided as I noted the serious expression on their faces.
"Ally this isn't a joke." My mother said sounding annoyed.
I began looking around the room in panic. Sean's parents were smiling at me like nothing had happened, while my parents were sending me looks that said they were dead serious. My eyes finally fell on the boy sitting next to me. Here he was sitting there STILL smirking; he seemed to be enjoying this. I caught his eyes scanning my body and I turned away in disgust.
"Y..Y..You can't do this." I stammered still in shock.
"Ally-" My mom began but I stopped her.
"This isn't happening! This is illegal!" I was beginning to become upset and was now shouting.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU! I'M YOUR DAUGHTER! YOU CAN'T JUST MAKE ME MARRY SOME STRANGER!" I yelled as I jumped from my seat.
"Allison Michelle Logan! Sit down this instant!" My dad yelled at me.
I sat down giving in and tried to hold my tears in. My dad was apologizing to Richard and Hilary! How could he do that! He was apologizing for me when he had just practically given me away.
"Ally I suggest you go upstairs and pack, you will be leaving in an hour." My dad said as he sat back down.
"Leaving for where?" I questioned.
"You're going back to London with Sean and his parents where you will live from now on."
This completely pushed me over the edge. I didn't snap, I didn't throw a fit, I simply got up from my seat and quietly made my way to my room to pack. If my parents no longer wanted me then I no longer considered them my parents.
I drug my black suitcases out from under my bed and began to fill them with my clothes. About fifteen minutes after I had begun to pack my door opened and Sean stepped in.
"What do you want?" I asked him annoyed and angry.
"Your parents thought it would be a good idea for me to come help you pack." He said in his annoyingly hot British accent.
He walked over and flopped down on my bed and lay there watching me while I packed.
"I thought you were going to help." I said glaring at him.
"Why, it's not like you have much to pack." He said as he looked around my room in a disgusted manor.
I caught him looking at the nail polish stain on the carpet and wrinkle his nose like it had offended him. He continued to look around my room before speaking again.
"How can anyone live in a place that is so dreadful." He said looking at me.
"Well excuse me! If you think it's so dreadful than why don't you just go back to your rich, fancy home in London!" I yelled at him.
He smirked at me in response. Oh how I wanted to slap him right then,
"Don't worry love, I'm going back and I'm taking you with me." He said as he stood up and walked towards me.
I gave a disgusted sigh and turned back around to get the rest of my clothes. Before I could grab anymore of my clothes I felt two strong arms snake around my waist turning me around to face him.
"Let me go!" I yelled as I tried to push him off me.
"Calm down love." He whispered. "You're going to have to get used to me, they do expect grandchildren you know." He said as he pulled away smirking at my shocked expression and red face.
"EW! NO! NO FREAKING WAY!" I yelled at him disgusted.
"Come off it love, you know you want to shag me." He said as he came toward me again.
I backed away from him and backed right into my wall, as he came closer I started to panic then I formulated a plan. He came over and leaned down to kiss me; me being the wonderful actress I am pretended to be afraid. Just before his lips touched mine, I put my plan into action. I forcefully raised my knee and hit him; yeah you guessed it right in the groin. He doubled over in pain on the floor moaning and rolling around on my floor. I stepped over his writhing figure and continued to pack.
"First off it's not called shag, Second I would NEVER 'shag' you, and lastly if you ever try something like that again I will knee you harder just to guarantee that there will be no children." I stated with my back to him.
I closed my suitcase just as he was getting up off the floor. He looked pissed off. I mean REALLY pissed off. He stormed over to me and grabbed my arms pinning them to my sides. I raised my knee for another attack but he blocked it.
'Crap!' I thought to myself.
"You will never do anything like that again, you are mine now, you belong to me and you will do what I say when I say it." He growled though his teeth.
I flung his arms off of me and placed my hands on my hips.
"Excuse me! I don't belong to anyone let alone you! I am not a piece of property!" I said as I grabbed my suitcases and headed out of my room.
I walked into the living room to find my parents and Sean's talking happily like they were at their high school reunion. I strode past them and headed for the door. I stopped when I heard my mom and dad Ann and Eric called my name.
"Ally." They said like the expected me to thank them for what they had done.
"Ann, Eric." I said in a cold, emotionless voice.
They both looked extremely hurt by how I had addressed them. My mom Ann looked like she was about to break down in tears, and my dad looked like he was very uncomfortable. I remained standing where I was luggage in hand giving them one last chance to say anything they wanted. Anything! Like we're sorry, or please forgive us, or APRIL FOOLS! They said nothing, and neither did I as I turned and walked out of the door away from my life and into a completely new one that I had a feeling wouldn't be so average anymore.
