Never Hope
Girl woke up. It took her a few moments to realize today was the dreaded day. Valentine's Day. She hated this day with a passion. Ever since she knew what the concept of love was, she had never had a valentine for Valentine's Day.
Each year she would wake up and a part of her would think, "This is the day I get a valentine." Each year she was disappointed.
All through high school she would suffer in silence through Valentine's Day.
She snapped out of her musings and took a shower. She combed her hair, brushed her teeth, and got dressed. She grabbed her bag and walked out the door.
It was unusually warm for February.
"Maybe this is a good sign." She mused aloud.
'No, don't get my hopes up. It'll only make the disappointment that much greater.'
She reached the main building and couldn't help but see all the couples. And there she was, alone.
She shifted her bag on her shoulder and strode purposefully to class.
Her classes went by in a blur, nothing important to remember, just like every year before.
She headed back to her dorm and expected to trudge bitterly into it. She turned the corner at the end of the hall and froze. Standing at her door was a guy. He didn't look much older than her and from what she could see, was very good looking.
She started taking slow, deliberate steps to her dorm. As she got closer, she vaguely recognized him from one of her classes.
Could it be possible? Could she really have missed someone liking her? Surely she wouldn't miss the vibes on something like that?
She reached her door and got her keys out. She gave him a small smile.
"You looking for someone?"
He gave her a grin in return.
"Yea, actually I am. Alisha Barton? Are you her dorm mate?"
The girl's face never changed.
"No, wrong dorm. She's 3N4, I'm 3M6." She replied while indicating the dorm across the hall.
"Oh, sorry about that. Thanks though."
"No problem."
He turned and knocked on Alisha's dorm and the girl opened her door quietly as her face fell. Before she closed her door, the young man heard her mutter,
"Another disappointment."
