Library Collision

After being trapped in the library for nearly four hours, she thought her head might explode. She decided it was time for a dinner break. She gathered up all her books and made a stack about a mile high. As she made her way to the door, someone ran past her or at least attempted to run past her. However, in his haste, he wasn't very successful and plunged right into her He toppled not only her tower of Babel, but knocked her to the ground as well.

"I'm so sorry!" he shouted as everyone shooshed him.

She shoved her forest of skewed hair from her face and began to pick up her books. He started to help her gather her books together, apologizing continuously. They finally got a stack put together, but as soon as they stood up, he tripped over his shoelace and fell on her and they both tumbled to the ground.

By that time, Jenny couldn't help laughing hysterically, regardless of how many people told her to be quiet. Adam's face flushed a deep shade of burgundy. He couldn't handle the embarrassment anymore and bolted out of the room.

A week later, Jenny pulled out the business card he'd dropped amidst her textbooks. It was a card for a windshield repair shop. She wanted to just call the cell phone number listed on the bottom but she hadn't caught his name and there were two names listed on the card. Throughout the week, she kept thinking about it and wondered if maybe she should repair the rock chip in the windshield of her car. She decided to stop in at the shop and just see how much it would cost to repair it and hope she'd run into him there- no pun intended.

She went in the shop and found two men working at the desk. Neither of them looked like the man she'd seen at the library. She was a little disappointed, but she needed her windshield fixed anyway so she decided to have them take a look. While she was waiting, she asked the one still at the desk how many people worked there. He told her it was just the two of them. More disappointed but not wanting to be rude, she asked more about how he got into the business.

As he went on about his success, she glanced out the window and saw that it was raining. She'd always loved the rain and the romantic aura it had about it. Most people just saw the rain as something that would drench your clothes and drab your hair but Jenny loved it. Her favorite movies were the ones in which a couple would get caught in the rain and share a big "wet" kiss.

Not noticing that she'd been staring off, she was awoken from her daydream when the little bell at the top of the door rang and a man walked in, asking if his car was ready yet. At first she ignored him, until suddenly she realized that it was him, the guy from the library. She wanted to talk to him but she didn't know what to say.

While he discussed the cost of the repair, he could sense her looking at him so he glanced over his shoulder. As soon as he saw her, his eyes went wide. He started stuttering mid-sentence and got a lump in his throat. He had the sudden urge to follow his first instinct to run. Again, he bolted out the door.

Jenny was afraid she'd lose him again so she ran out after him in the rain.

"Stop!" she shouted.

Finally, after she'd chased him across the parking lot, he stopped.

"Why do you always run away?" Jenny panted.

"Look at me. I'm an idiot." He lowered his head while Jenny laughed again.

"No," she chuckled. "I'm glad we ran into each other. You're the first person that's been able to make me laugh in ages. I love it!"

He couldn't help grinning. "Ya know, I've always wanted to be a clown."

They stood out in the rain and talked and laughed for a few more minutes until he offered to treat her to hot chocolate where they exchanged real numbers.
