Epilogue
After that, Daye became the centre of my life, and I've raised her all these years. I have never looked into how the overthrow of the government was started; an uprising of the citizens, a better organized rebellion than ourselves? I don't suppose I'll ever find out either. After Rachael blew up the centre of the government, chaos ensued in the city. Every significant part of the government was gone, and the brain chips were no more than pieces of metal in people's heads. The city was a disaster for nearly eight years before the citizens started to rebuild. Most of the former rebellion moved back into the city to help, but some of us stayed here. Chris and Leah still visit often, with their three children. Their oldest child, Avia, and Daye grew up as sisters until my friends moved back to the city. Their last letter said that Chris was running for election in the fall. Democracy will finally happen, after all these years. But it's not for me. In a few years, Daye will graduate from the country school, and she has said that she wants to start at the high school in the city. Chris and Leah have offered her a room in their new house, so she will go. But I will not return to the city. Too much has happened there for me to wish to return.
