The Sometimes Friend

I call myself a sometimes friend,
All too often I just pretend
Because I know I can't contend

With other friends, loved more,
Whom vows of faithfulness swore
To never part until Death's door.

Sometimes I think I'm second-hand,
Although I know I can't command
The love you cannot understand.

I'm just here, until the end
Heart in hand, ready to extend
Waiting for an always friend.
