Recardo's Adventure: Part 4
He awoke in the afternoon and visited Cindy again. The doctor gave him the news that she wasn't showing any signs of getting better. He went back down to the beach. A large flock of seagulls were chattering about, as if gossiping about someone or something. It almost felt to Recardo that they were talking about last night's events. When the birds heard Recardo's footsteps they started flying away, but Recardo intervened and said, "No wait. Take me with you!" These desperate words showed how lost in his fear Recardo was. The gulls turned their heads, shocked. The ones that had flown away returned in wonder. The birds started coming toward him. They were very close to him now, but Recardo didn't move from where he stood.
Next thing he knew, he was swept up into a cloud of birds. They were sailing over the ocean. He had a completely perfect aerial view of the ocean. Every once in a great while during the long trip, a bird would swoop down to snack on a fish. You never would think that birds would sweep you up like they did to Recardo. They were heading east. Huge navy ships looked like little toy boats from where they were. It seemed hours before Recardo saw land. The birds gracefully landed, setting Recardo down in the sand. They started chatting again, but the strangest part was that this time Recardo could understand them!
His shock of understanding the language of the birds overwhelmed his sense of sorrow for the loss of Cindy, whom he desperately hoped would recover soon. He was curious as to where he was, but not too curious as he then his childhood friend, Garrett, who had died many years ago. But it now seemed that his best friend from long ago still lived. In astonishment of this new discovery, Recardo fainted.
