The Silence of You

Sometimes when the lonely swings

Swaying slowly in the wind

Call my name in a haze of whispers

Sometimes when the cruel fireflies

Chase me alone into the dark night

To play a mad game of tag

Sometimes when the waves

Crash onto my tan sand castle

In the gentlest of destructions

Sometimes, I remember

A soothing voice and twinkling eyes

A spicy aftershave and strong arms

Sometimes it gets hard to breathe

Memories catch me in a vise, unrelenting,

So I stop trying and tell my heart to be still

But sometimes, the stillness is worse –

That cold, deafening silence

Perfectly echoes yours
