and they run.
and talk, and laugh, and play.
they run and don't
get tired.
they keep going in a straight line,
running and running
and being happy.

a fence appears;
the track is no longer
linear.
they have to swerve off, and are
separated. they still run,
but they get tired
and tired and they
gasp for breath
and sweat pours down their faces.
they get a sip of water,
every now and then,
that revives them.
but they are tired.
and they can't stop running.

they don't even realize it
when their paths merge together.
they smile at each other,
and pick up their heads
and go a little faster.

they get their second wind,
and then they keep running.
