Chapter 2: The School

DISCLAIMER: This school was made with the help of Ash Angel 9-12-85

"First we'll go get you enrolled, then we'll find you a house," the man, brown haired and brown eyed and who seemed to hold a higher status around here, said.

Jenna looked around. This place, this school (the sign read 'Emerald's School for Mastery of the Arts') was nothing short of huge. The school its self was made of sandstone, and obviously had many floors. It stretched and stretched for about a couple miles. Jenna made it to be about 4 or 5. Then there was, as the man put it, their housing development. This was more like a city.

The school didn't have just a couple thousand students; it had a couple hundred thousand, and just as many houses. Jenna knew that there was probably more stuff out of her eye's view.

According to the map Jenna held in her hands, the forest surrounding this 'city' was called Whisperer's Forest and the lake beyond that was called FrogMist Lake.

"It's very big," Jenna told the man, then looked behind her. Nate, who had been following them, was gone.

"He'll be back," them assured. Jenna wasn't worried.

The man she was following looked to be in about his twenties with brown hair and big green eyes. "I'm sorry," he continued "I don't believe I introduced myself." He searched for a certain key on his ring of keys. There were at least 100 keys on that huge ring.

They had entered the school and had gone up a flight of stairs now stopped at a door in the hall. Lockers surrounded them. Jenna looked up and read the white sticker writing over the door HEADMASTER.

"My name is James, I'm the headmaster around here." The door opened with a light click.

"My name is Jenna Starkfield. Nice to meet you. How many generations has this school been around?" she couldn't resist asking.

"At least ten, but only one in my family."

"How old are you?" Jenna blurted before she could stop herself.

"Umm, I believe it's 756." Jenna got a look of pure shock which made James chuckle. "My dragon is 60,480 years old."

"Wow" she said in wonder.

"Please take a seat." Jenna sat down in the chair that had been scooted in front of James desk.

The office was a typical one. It had the desk with the computer and the messy files all over it. It had the file cabinets and the waiting room chairs. It also had the clock. There was an old-fashioned looking radio sitting on one of the five end tables that had been scattered around the room, all of which bore many types of files and books. There was a bookcase that had books of many colors and languages in it sitting near the back. A cup on the desk full of pens and pencils was sitting next to a picture of James and a little boy standing by a fence. The carpet was a light tan and the walls were cream with wooden trim. James' voice brought Jenna back to reality. "Here's a paper you have to fill out and once that is done, I'll give you the necessary things to get around here."

"Do I have a say in any of this?" Jenna asked.

"Of course you do, Jenna" Nate declared as he walked through the door and pulled up a chair. "Do you want to go to school here?"

"Isn't now a little late to ask me that?"

"Great, then it's settled!" Nate concluded.

"Oy', " Jenna wasn't going to argue with him. Besides, she thought to herself, I think I'll like it here. She finished filling out the sheet which asked her things like her age, ethnicity, guardians, gender and the only one that really bothered her…. powers. Jenna hated not be able to use her powers, let alone not knowing what they were. Surprisingly, James didn't say anything about it.

Powers, Jenna had studied everything about them and could recite every one that ever existed. They were demon-given gifts to the humans. The story went that a demon child who was heir to the throne had traveled through the worlds and, in turn, ended up in the mankind world. A widowed woman found the child and despite his unusual behavior, raised him. In exchange for her hospitality, he granted her immortality and his five human siblings special powers: the ability to manipulate earth, the ability to manipulate water, fire, plants and mind-borne powers such as the ability to read minds. Generally you are to wield these powers through your hands, and conduct them with your mind. There are some exceptions.

Another one is that demons traveled to the Man-Kind World and reproduced with humans. That is where not so basic powers, such as ice, shadow, ghost, dragon and manipulation of metal came from.

The last thing is the four worlds. The Underworld, the Demon World, the Man-Kind World, and the Spirit World. They are kind of self-explanatory.

Jenna doubted that everyone on this campus was pure human, her new headmaster a living example.

"Well, let us get you moved in and comfortable. Then I'll have a student show you the ropes," James told Jen after going over the paper she had filled out with a fine-toothed comb.
