Hugging Silence

My arms are reaching out

Through the darkness of my pain,

Searching for the light to lead me home,

Searching in vain;

I am all alone.

It is so dark and black here,

I do not even know if you are there.

My voice is swallowed and spit back at me,

Misery drips and echoes everywhere,

While my tears shall drown me in an invisible sea.

My arms close around nothing,

A silence that booms and rings in my ears.

I stumble and fall forward, bruising my knees,

Surrounded by all my sorrows, failures and fears,

All in a place no one ever sees.

So this is how it feels

To reach out, to hold in your arms

A deafening silence.
