There was a long pause and all possible thoughts were running through my head.

"Ashley? Ashley! She's my best friend! She's who I'm always comparing myself to! My almost-adoptive sister, we're just that close. The blonde hair, blue eyed bomb? She's five seven and has a natural tan to die for?"

He seemed to ponder this a while. Then his eyes lit up. "Oh, that Ashley." Then he donned this astonished look. "I'm astounded! Me? Cheat on you? Yet alone cheat on you with your best friend? How thick do you think I am?! I'm not that stupid!"

"Ha. Ha," I laughed through my tears. "You're such a jerk! The blonde hair, blue-eyed girl is a goddess any guy would die for! She's got the curves in all the right places and doesn't have to deal with braces. She's into all the latest music and doesn't have to waste money by going to the tanning salon! What the heck, I mean, she's an angel, everyone says so! You can't tell me you don't like her in the slightest. Any guy would die to have her."

"Any guy would die to have you!" I waited for him to go on and when he didn't, I walked off. "I mean, come on! Don't do this to me here! Can't we at least talk about this somewhere else?" When I didn't stop, he continued. "You're a great musician. I've never seen Ashley sing, play flute, piccolo, or piano. She can't run hurtles and she can't swim for shit, let alone dive! She can't march guard, play tennis, or dance for the life of her."

I stopped and walked over to him. "You've crushed my spirits once today. The only man worth your tears should never make you cry. See these? They're tears. You made me cry! Do you know how bad that hurts? These tears are leaving their marks for good. I don't know if we'll ever be the same."

He smiled slowly. "But we're still a we?" I just had to laugh.

"Of course we're a we! Why wouldn't we be a we?" He gave me a hug and kissed the top of my head. We stood there until a teacher came by and reprimanded us for being in school so late after the bell. "It's Friday," I stated. "No more marching band; dive is over and so is swim; and who gives a fuck when soccer starts?"

He laughed. "We both do, but we're lucky; it doesn't start for another few weeks. Your house or mine?" I thought.

"Mine. No siblings and Dad's out of town. I'm supposed to be over at Ashley's house before nine," I said as an after thought.

"I have to be to work at seven anyway. I can drop you off on my way there." We ended up falling asleep on the couch while watching a movie. The alarm on his phone went off at six-thirty. I put together two peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches for him. I would get something to eat at Ashley's house.

I packed while he was eating and remembered that I had forgotten my medicines as we were walking out the door.

The car ride was peaceful. He dropped me off with another kiss. I gagged. "Grape jelly."

He laughed. "You know how I like my sandwiches!" I rolled my eyes.

"Yes, I know you too well, don't I?"

I grabbed my stuff and made to open Ashley's door but she beat me to it. "I was so worried that he did something to you! I mean, I heard during study hall what he was going to do next hour in the computer lab…" I glared and dropped my stuff where I was standing (which happened to be right underneath her dog so she yelped).

"You knew? You knew the whole time and you didn't tell me?" I crossed my arms.
