CHAPTER 3

In Class

"Uh, listen Sachii, I need to tell you something." Takaya's voice is in a whisper.

"Mmhmm?" says Sachii, trying to finish her homework.

"I…errrr..." he looks around, hoping for support, but instead, finds Ryoi staring at him. "I need to tell you the truth. The fact is, I don't like you! I never liked you! I really, really liked your sister, but she broke up with me and I thought, I thought"

"You thought that maybe if you got together with me, you would grab my sister's attention and you guys would get back together. I know that you wanted to do that all along. I just played along."

"You did? But, how?" asks Takaya dumbfoundly.

"During this week, I've always noticed you trying to speak to Machii when she was around. I knew that, right then, you still liked her. And really, you can't force someone to like you if they don't like you back."

"I'm sorry, Sachii. I didn't mean to. Really."

"No it's okay. I understand." He gives her a hug. "Anyways, it was nice to be your girlfriend for a week, even though it was fake." A tear forms in her eye.

"I'm sorry, I got to go now." Sachii excuses herself and runs to the roof.

She sobbed and sobbed until she couldn't cry anymore and sat there, staring at the clouds.

"Are you okay?" asks a person. Sachii turns around and sees Ryoi.

"Yeah." She says quietly. Ryoi joins Sachii. They sit in silence.

"I broke up with Machii," says Ryoi suddenly.

"Why?"

"Beacause, as you said, there are some things that can't be forced and that's love. I don't like Machii." He pauses," Sachii, I like you."

"What? But what about my sister?"

"Don't worry, I guarantee you, she'll be happy too." He leans over and gives Sachii a nice, long and tender kiss.

Makisho Residence

"Machii, are you mad at me?"

"For what?" asks Machii while reading one of her favorite novels.

"Well," Sachii hestitates," Because Ryoi likes me instead of you and you"

"Listen Sachii," interrupts Machii, " There's one thing you've always told me and I'm gonna tell you. Listen carefully. You can't force someone into liking you if they don't really like you back. That's real selfish."

"So you're not mad at me?"

Machii bursts out laughing. "Where in the world did you get that from? I would never be mad at something as childish as that!"

Then, they both giggle.

"Anyways, I got to go. Takaya is waiting for me." says Machii.

"You mean,"

"Yup. I decided to give Takaya another chance. Afterall, he was one of the many guys I really liked."

"Wait for me! I'm leaving as well" says Sachii, grabbing her handbag.

"Where are you going?" asks Machii, looking at the time.

"I've got to meet Ryoi at the park." Replies Sachii.

They both look at each other and then break into laughter as they walk out the door.
