METAMORPHOSIS

Take me

Separate me from the rest of the world

Place something on me to make me stand out

Look different

Keep me away from the people outside these walls

Still human

Take me away from my home

Make me get inside a crowded convoy

Only with water and bread in hand

Let me, like the others with me, suffer

Still human

Bring me to a place like Hell

To torment me, to only make me suffer more

Leading me and others to taunting flames

They guarantee us a slow, agonizing death

Only wanting to show us what it is like

You let us live a bit longer and take us to our new homes

Still human

You eagerly take away my possessions

Take away my faith and let it burn in the flames

Shave the hair on my head

Steal my clothes as well and my new shoes

Leave me nothing but a serial number on my arm

From then on, I had no other name (Wiesel 42)

Still human

You hardly give me a decent meal

Only a ration of bread and soup

I am surviving but I'm getting skinnier

To the point where you can count how many ribs I have

See the knobs of my knees

Still human

You shoot us

Whip us

Hang us

Tell us to look death in the face

As it laughed at us from the gallows

Because our God is there too

Dead

Still human

Put fear into my being

Turn me into a machine

So I can march long enough to see others go down before I do

Allow us to fight each other for food

For survival

Watch us with interest, glee

As you bring us closer and closer to our deaths

We are no longer humans

Just beasts

DEHUMANIZED
