The Adventures Of

Fred, Ned, Ted and along the way… Gilbert

By Anders Johanson

Prologue

There once was a time where bunnies could roam free in a field and not have anything to worry about. They could frolic in the flowers, rant about the carrot shortage and the loss of money for corn in the stock market. You wouldn't need to worry about hawks or buzzards. The Underground wasn't swarming with water, or insects.

But now there are all those things… except the corn gained a little.

We begin with three brothers named Fred, Ted, and Ned. These particular boys especially enjoy going on long journeys and leaving Underground meetings without notice. They are very curious little bunnies and they loved to play.

Chapter one

Fred, Ned, and Ted were stuck at home looking out the window. They were a little crowded because there was no window seat. Come to think of it… it wasn't even a window. It was a hole.

Anyway, they all were very bored. Mummy and Pops were out working. Pops works in the stock market and Mummy works at a flower shop. The boys didn't much like going to work with them.

"Let's go out and play." suggested Fred. "No… we did that yesterday." replied Ted. "Why can we not ever think of something to do?" asked Ned. Ned was always the fussy one, and he was the youngest of the three.

They all decided to go outside (even though they did do that yesterday) and play in the mud. Fred was the first to hop in the mud and soak his tail in. 'This is very comfy,' thought Fred to himself. 'I wonder if we could do this everyday' he asked himself. While Fred thought about this, Ned and Ted were jumping up and down trying to knock a water spider into the water which they are not supposed to do.

"Leave that poor bug alone!" shouted Fred at Ned and Ted. Of course, they ignored him and kept on hopping. So Fred decided to go to a quieter spot and think about what was going on while still trying to enjoy the soft pitter-patter of the rain drops falling on the mud.

Ned and Ted were watching Fred hop away and then they came up with a trick. Ted gathered the water spider into his paw while Ned went over to see what Fred was doing. Fred, being Fred, was sitting under his favorite tree humming a song that Ned did not recognize. He shrugged it off and went back to Ted who was already half way up Fred's tree.

"I'm gonna drop the spider on Fred's head." whispered Ted. Ned did not know what his brother was up to so he played along and followed him up the tree. Ted naturally got up to the top first because Ned was too slow. When they both reached the top, Ted crept over to a branch that was right over Ted's head. Ned curiously watched as Ted positioned himself just right.

Then, Ted lowered the spider down, so Ned leaned over the side of the tree to watch. The spider went a little lower. So Ned leaned a little further. The spider was almost halfway down the tree when Ned leaned so far that he fell out of the tree and landed in the mud, making a big splash and getting Fred all dirty.

"Look what you did to my tail!" shouted an angry Fred. "I'm sorry, Fred, I didn't mean to. I was watching Ted drop a…" Ned was cut off. Behind Fred, Ted was lying on the ground waiving his hands furiously. Ned didn't know what he meant so he continued. "I was watching Ted trying to drop a spider on your head. But I leaned out too far and I fell and I'm all muddy now." Said Ned, a little embarrassed.

Fred started to wipe is tail off when the rain started to pickup. It was just a very slight down poor, but there was now thunder and lightning. "Whelp. I guess its time to go inside!" Told Fred to Ned & Ted.

The boys headed towards the hole. When they got there they couldn't see a thing. "Where's the house?" Asked Ned, a little scared. "I thought it was right here." Said Fred beginning to worry. The boys frantically searched the field for the entrance of the house.

There was no luck.

They were lost.

"Great, just great." Said an annoyed Ted. "Now calm down Ted, we can still find the house. Or…" finished Fred. "What are you thinking, Fred?" Asked Ted. "What if we go on an adventure?" Said an excited Fred. Ned was looking up in the sky when a raindrop fell and hit him in the eye. "Oww!!" Exclaimed Ned. "I'm blind! AHH!!!" He shouted. "You're not blind, Ned." Ted told Ned as he hit him in the back of the head.

"I like the idea. Let's do it!" Said Ted. So the boys set off towards the cornfield about to embark on a big adventure. "Who said that?" Asked Ned. "Who said what?" asked Fred and Ted in unison. "Oh… nothing I guess." replied Ned as he slowly followed his two older brothers towards the cornfield.

As they were passing by Miss Fran's garden, which is in the east (south of the way they are heading), Ned began to get curious. "Why are we going to the cornfield?" asked Ned. "Because we have to get to the cornfield. We've never gone past it before." replied Fred. "Why can't we go to the Hollow Tree?" asked Ned. "Because Fred said we're going this way." said an annoyed Ted. "Oh leave him alone, Ted. He's only 4. He doesn't know any better." said Fred. Ned was following behind and he couldn't tell what they were saying, much less care about it. He was to preoccupied by a pre-bloomed dandy lion. He went up to it and began to sniff around and take in the wonderful aromas that surrounded the "white fluffy thing". Fred glanced over his shoulder to check on his younger brother and noticed what he was about to do.

"Ted… you may enjoy this." whispered Fred. Ted quietly turned around and looked. Ned was sniffing the flower and was starting to twitch. The twitch started in his foot, moved up to his tummy, up into his neck, and finally "ACHOO!!!!" Ned sneezed. The white puffs of the dandy lion went flying through the air in all sorts of directions. Fred and Ted, who were watching the whole time, started to laugh. They tried as hard as they could to contain but finally their lips exploded open with a burst of laughter.

"What are you guys laughing at?" asked Ned. Fred and Ted were laughing so hard they couldn't even hear their brother. "Guys… Why are you laughing?" again, they could not hear their brother. Ned decided to take advantage of this situation to go up and play a trick on his brothers. He snuck behind a rock and coiled himself as tightly as he could into a small,

Brown clump of fur.

When Fred and Ted's laughter had finally died down they looked around for their brother who they had been obnoxiously laughing at just a moment before. "Where's Ned, Ted?" asked Fred. "I thought you were watching him." replied Ted.

Ned was behind the rock listening as his brothers worried about his safety. He slowly un-coiled himself and was fully stretched out. He climbed up the rock and looked over.

They were gone.

Ned quickly hopped over the rock and frantically searched the field for signs of his brothers. He turned around to check behind him. "Boo!" shouted Fred and Ted, as Ned turned around. "There you guys are! I couldn't find you! Let's keep going. Towards the cornfield of course."

Fred and Ted were happy at their brothers' decision to keep going. So they headed off west towards the cornfield once again.
