Alex woke up when the sun was setting. Lifting her head up slightly and looking down, she saw her hand and another hand twined with hers. She looked up and saw her new friend slumped in the chair appearing to be asleep. Alex looked him over.

He appeared to be a mix of Asian and European descent. His pitch-black hair was short and spiked, a few long strands falling over his cinnamon brown eyes that were closed. He had strangely elegant eyebrows for a guy. She knew for a fact that he was almost six foot because he towered over the nurse. The black muscle shirt hugged his lean frame and was covered with and old leather jacket. The faded, baggy jeans were hung low on his hips and a pair of black Doc Martins covered his feet.

Alex laid her head back down and watched Joey sleep. Suddenly feeling hungry, she reached over with her other hand and pressed the button for the nurse. The same nurse as before, Alex thought hard, nurse Katie, came in and smiled at her.

"Hi, are you hungry." She asked softly.

Alex nodded her head.

"What would you like?"

She thought for a minute, "chicken, potatoes and water."

"I'll bring it as soon as I can." Katie turned on her heel and walked out.

"Finally your up, I was getting bored." Alex turned her head and saw Joey giving her a teasing smile.

"I was wondering if you even could sleep." Alex said, pushing the button on her bed to put it into a sitting position. "Why didn't you leave?"

Joey gave her a puzzled look. "You asked me not to before you fell asleep and I said I wouldn't leave you. You don't remember?"

Alex shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not surprised, morphine will do that to people."

"Since your going to eat, I'm going to go see if they found out who I am yet."

She looked confused. "Why, don't they know who you are?"

"No and I have a feeling I wont be able to leave until they do."

"Why don't I tell them."

"Yeah, you go ahead and tell them that my spirit told you my body was here." He said sarcastically.

"I'm sorry." Alex said in a small voice.

Joey shoved his other hand through his hair and sighed. "I'm sorry. Look I'm going to go look around for a little while. I'll be back later." Releasing her hand, he brushed some of the hair out of her face and smiled. Joey stood up and walked through the wall she was facing.

Joey walked down the few floors back to the emergency room and into the break room. He sat down along one of the empty walls and waited for people to come in. Sure enough, not even ten minutes later, two nurses walked in chatting about the patients they had taken care of. Joey looked at the taller of the two, pretty sure she had assisted the doctor who had shocked the hell out of his body. After a couple more minutes, his nurse mentioned him.

"Do you remember the boy I had told you about yesterday?"

The other nurse stopped and thought for a second. "The boy that died from an allergy?"

"Yeah him." His nurse pulled out her lunch. "I guess they still can't identify him so they're going to at out a APB and give his picture to news stations all over the state."

"Wow. That's a lot of trouble for a teenage boy." She said frowning.

"I know. It doesn't make sense to me either but I guess they have their reasons."

Joey stood up from where he was and walked through the wall. "Dammit." He swore angrily. "Why did they have to do that." He went to the morgue to find the coroner and a police officer standing over his body taking a picture.

"Such a handsome boy. Too bad he died from such a little thing." The coroner said as she handed the Polaroid to the officer. "Why are you going through so much trouble to find his family?"

The man put the picture into his shirt pocket. "Couldn't tell you. Chief just wants it done. Thanks."

She nodded at his reply and watched him leave. She shook her head and pushed his body back into the cooler.

Joey stood there in disbelief. The only thing going through his head was 'Why'? Confusion was slowly taking over his anger as he walked back up to Alex's room. He walked through the closed door and stopped short at the sight of five nicely dressed people surrounding her bed, talking. His confusion shot up a little more as he studied them.

The woman on the right side of the bed holding her hand appeared to be her mother. She was a petite little woman with light blonde, her coffee brown dress suit accenting her wide hazel eyes and the lightness of her skin. The older man next to the blonde Joey presumed to be Alex's dad. He was semi-tall, his broad shoulders filling out his black button up shirt and khaki slacks covered his legs. His dark brown hair was peppered with gray that fell short above his bottle green eyes. The woman on the other side of the bed looked almost identical to the mom except she had chocolate brown hair and was tanner, making the colors of her cream shirt and emerald skirt more prominent. Standing next to her was a tall man with short-cropped dirty blonde hair and dark brown eyes; light freckles dotted his arms and face. He looked more relaxed in a dark blue polo shirt and black dickie pants.

However, the one that really caught his attention was the teenage boy standing at the foot of her bed. He was simply staring at her, not saying a word, just a smile or a nod whenever the conversation needed one. Joey looked him over with a critical eye. He was tall and thin, auburn hair that was brushed to the side of his face and light blue eyes that held lies. His blue button up checkered shirt over a white shirt and pale khakis were spotless. Uncertainty was beginning to mix in with his confusion. Who was he? He didn't look anything like Alex so he probably wasn't her brother. Or even her cousin.

Joey turned his attention towards the adults who where still talking Alex and each other.

"Soon we will be able to get you out of this horrid place, sweetie?" The blonde lady said to her squeezing her hand.

"Now Tori, I talked to you about this. We have to wait." The man next to her said strictly.

"Nonsense. With enough money you can do anything."

"Tori, it doesn't matter. There has to be a donor first."

She looked a little put off by this. She smoothed Alex's hair down, "Can we at least get her a private room Darin, she looks as though she's dieing in here."

"Thanks mom, didn't think I looked that bad." She pulled her hand away and crossed her arms.

The brunette on the other side of the bed laughed softly. "I don't think that's what she meant, darlin'."

"MayLynn help me out." Her sister pleaded.

She just shook her head. "Jeez Tori." She looked at her brother in law. "How about it. Can we get her a private room?"

"MayLynn, its not very fair to gang up with your sister." Her husband told her smiling.

"Sometimes we have to Bryon. How else can I keep her happy."

"Excuse me." The little blonde protested.

"Why don't we ask her nurse?" Darin suggested quickly, hoping to avoid another outburst from his wife.

As if on cue, Alex's nurse poked her head in. "I'm sorry but visiting time is over. You can come back tomorrow at eight if you would like."

"But we just got here not fifteen minutes ago." The teenage boy said frowning.

"Yes and you would be able to stay longer if this was any other ward. However this is the ICU and the rules are more enforced." The nurse told him firmly and left.

"Can I have just a couple of minutes alone with her." He asked her mom as the adults went to the door.

Her mom looked up at her dad. "I suppose Reese. We'll just be talking to the nurse"

As they left, Joey looked at Alex and saw her looking at him with fear in his eyes. Her gaze swung to the tall red head and Joeys did to in time to see anger sweep over his features.

"I heard you had a male visitor yesterday." He hissed at her.

Joey was startled for a moment until she answered. "So what? One of my friends visited me."

"I thought I told you nobody else was allowed to visit you." He said as he went around the side of the bed.

"Like I have any reason to listen to you." She glared up at him.

He grabbed her arm tightly making her wince. "Once we're married you are going to have no choice."

"Reese, let go of my arm, you're hurting me." Tears were coming to her eyes now.

Instead of releasing her, he squeezed tighter making her tears fall. Her heart rate was slowing getting faster from fear.

Joey was starting to see red. Just cause he was dead didn't mean he couldn't do anything. He walked over to the other boy and stuck his hand through his back and around his heart. Focusing all of his attention to his hand, he squeezed. It resulted in his desired affect of making Reese drop Alex's arm and start clutching his chest, gasping for air. Only when Alex looked at him slightly worried did Joey retract his hand.

"Get out of my room."

Still trying to catch his breath, Reese looked up shocked at her cold tone. Wheezing a couple more times, he straightened up and went to leave, unaware that there were two pairs of eyes watching him. He stopped at the door. "I don't want to hear that any more guys came to see you." He opened the door and left.
