(Reaching for flashlight)
My turn! I want to tell a story!
(Holding flashlight out of reach)
No way, little pony. You told one fifteen minute ago! It is Brennan's turn!
(Hands BRENNAN the flashlight)
Awww. . .
(Shining flashlight on face. Quietly:)
Okay, I'm gonna tell a story about. . . .The Boogeyman!
What is a 'boogeyman?'
(Pronounces it BOO-gee-mon)
No, don't say anything, Ian! Lemme tell the story!
(Waits for silence; clears throat)
A long, long time ago–
In a galaxy far, far away. . .
A long time ago, a little boy named Damon was playing in his house–
Why are all the stories about boys? Why not a girl?
Is he playing with pink glitter? Glitter is fun! So is pink!
Let me finish! Geesh! Anyway, there was a young boy named Damon playing in his house. He kept hearing creepy sounds–
(Makes creepy sounds)
Damon ignores them, but he keeps hearing it. He decides to play in another room.
(Pause; lowers light)
Well, after dinner, while he's trying to sleep, he hears a whisper,
(Lifts flashlight. Quiet, creepy voice:)
RYLEY, and HALEY
Damon calls for his dad,
No one comes. His dad doesn't hear. So, Damon gets up, and walks to the closet door.
Oh, no, not-smart move!
(Ignoring him; continuing)
He opens the closet–
(Louder; lifts flashlight)
RYLEY, and HAYLEY
There, in front of him, stoods a monster! Eight feet tall! He's green, with a huge mouth and red eyes; a dripping, giant, booger-monster! Called the Boogeyman! The boy screams, and hides under his blankets.
Silence. No one responds. Everyone blinks.
That's it? He was a giant booger?
I thought it would be scarier.
Yeah, none of you can even probably not understand me, yet mine was the scarierest!
Hey, it was scary! A giant booger! Scary! . . .
(Gets up; takes flashlight)
You guys are boring. I'm going to sleep.
RYLEY, HAYLEY, and ALIJOSA
I didn't get to tell a story. . .
