An Imaginable Fear

Footsteps. I hear footsteps.

The sound becomes distant and I suddenly know:

It's coming for me.

I find someplace to hide.

Under the covers, under the bed, in my closet. Where?

I want to scream, but I can't.

My mouth is sealed up like glue.

The footsteps are approaching.

I hold my breath.

It stops at my door and slowly, the doorknob turns itself, going like through a time tunnel.

I'm scared. I grab my baseball bat as quick as I could and close my eyes.

I am walking somewhere. It is dark; so dark not a single creature would dare come forth.

Something rustles. "Who's there?" I ask.

No one answers me.

Suddenly, something attacks me.

I try to scream, but nothing comes out my mouth.

Instead, I kick and punch.

The attacker falls back and moans.

A bright light blinds me.

My eyes open and see sunlight.

I am safe, for it is daylight.

On the floor, I see only the maid, who I kicked and punched.

Huh?!

I am shocked.

Was it just a dream?

There was no attacker? No monster? Nothing at all?

I sit back and give a sigh of relief.

Outside, something wicked laughs, it continues to laugh, nonstop.

"WHO'S THERE!?"

END

Well, what do you think of this? I dunno how I got this poem to work, it just popped out of my head and BAM! I started typing. Please R&R!
