A Penny For Your Thoughts

I pulled into the driveway of the suburban home, the dull blue colored bricks feeling inviting after the work at the office. I had gotten a job as a newspaper editor, going over articles that the writing staff never seemed to do right.

As I turned the keys in the door, I knew that Jason was already home. I placed my shoes just inside the door, happily undoing the top two buttons of my shirt. The buttons always annoyed me throughout the day, feeling like it was closing around my throat. I pulled out the necklace that I kept under it out, letting it swing freely.

I made my way into the small side room that Jason had insisted on. He kept a majority of his art supplies there and spent most of his work time there, creating comic strips for the newspaper we both worked for. We had managed to somehow get jobs at the same place, but didn't suffer too badly in our relationship since we worked for different departments.

"So how was the desk job today Ceecee?" Jason asked as I walked over to his shoulder, seeing the comic he was hard at work on. I bent down and placed a kiss right below his ears. Even after four years I still managed to cause him to shiver with a light kiss there.

"I couldn't concentrate knowing you were at home," I whispered into his ears, wrapping my arms around his neck.

"Before you start any of this again, I thought you might want to know you have a letter." I pulled my lips away from his earlobe, looking around his face to look into his eyes. My heart started to beat a little faster as they connected.

"Who from?"

"See for yourself." He pulled the envelope from the side table next to him, giving it to me as I unwrapped myself from his neck. I tore it open, scanning the content.

"What's it say?"

"To Chris and Jason,

How are the two of you? It's been a while since I last talked to you and thought that I might send you this letter to help you keep in touch. I still don't know why the two of you decided to move to Arizona, but I guess that was up to you and not me.

I'm doing fine. I still haven't managed to net my own guy, but I can live without one for another year or so. I managed to get a job working for Portraits Innovations. You might've seen a few out there. It's an awesome place and I get to do what I love. Whenever the two of you visit, you should come and get your pictures taken by me.

Rachel's been keeping me up-to-date with a friend of hers that she works with. She says that he's having relationship troubles, although she won't say with whom. I guess she doesn't tell me everything. She also wants to know what city the two of you are hiding in, but I'm not going to be the one to tell her.

Sara ended up working with me, by the way. She managed to get a hold of the manager position, but she still does photo-shoots, especially when it involves little kids. They can't seem to get enough of her. Speaking of which, she's pregnant now. It's only been six months since her wedding, too. I hope she can handle having her own little rascals to take care of, although I'm sure she'll do just fine.

Justin called me a few days ago, saying that he's decided to move to Chicago in a few weeks. I wonder if he's going to move anywhere close to where Rachel lives. He tells me that Maggie managed to find someone else to obsess about (although she still can't stand you)! He even said that the other guy returns her feelings full force. I guess everyone ends up finding someone, huh? Now only if that was true for me.

I haven't had a chance to get a hold of anyone else, but I'm sure that their all living wonderful lives. Maybe they'll get back in touch later.

Hope to see you two soon!

Becca"

I stared at the letter a few more seconds. I hadn't realized that we hadn't stayed in touch. Life just seemed to go by so fast now that we were finally away from everything.

"Wow, it sounds like everyone's happy," Jason said. He had stopped working, turning to watch me read the letter aloud. "How long has it been since we last saw any of them?"

"Almost a year now."

"We really should get together again, for old times sake." I nodded.

"As long as we don't have to involve Maggie." Jason let out a laugh as he pulled me into his lap.

"We won't involve Maggie. Now, about what you were doing to my poor ear…" Jason pulled my face against his, our lips brushing past each others. All thoughts about staying in touch with the others slip my mind.

End

A/N: And there we have it, the end of the story. It feels good knowing I finished this, and so quickly too. I know there are a few mistakes here and there, but nothing is perfect the first time around (or any time after that). Looking over this, I realize that it's not brilliantly clever or fantastic, but it is rather good for a first time writer.

Amindaya: No, it didn't break the deal with Granny. The deal was essentially that Jason had to wait until Chris was 18 before doing anything or they had to get their own place. But yes, Granny is a sly old woman.

Kyobouryuu Arashi: Ack, I didn't even notice I had done that. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll make sure that it won't happen in any of the other stories I plan to write.

Wyrem's Glasses: Yes, it did make sense. I hope you enjoyed the end to this story and that your nose gets less bloody. Unless your long review shows up tomorrow during bowling, in which case I hope it stays bloody.

Thanks to all the people who read my story from start to finish. I give you all free internet cookies. Over 4,500 hits and 100 reviews makes me a very happy writer. I hope to see most of you again when I post another story. In the meantime, I'll miss you all!
