i allow you to swim
in my ocean,
salty skin and all,
and you continually
float away, arms fluttering
into shark fins, pointed
through my love blubber.

(harpoon my heart,
you harpoon my heart,
but i've got schools
of fish to keep me alive.)

and now i've never seen
seaweed, or tasted
the tang of its leaves,
without your face
drifting in its green,
selling lies and sand dollars
to the mermaids singing
at the bottom of the sea.
