We were upon Thanksgiving, and Johnny and I had spent so much time together since we had confessed our true feelings for each other. I was completely settled in the apartment and it was just like home. During school, we were extremely careful about keeping our relationship a secret. I acted as normal as possible around him, and no one suspected a thing.
It was a Friday, the day before Thanksgiving. I was sitting on the couch, watching the Food channel after school. Since everyone was talking about subjects like "How to prepare the perfect Turkey" I decided to stare at the television screen and drool. Johnny walked in the room, after he changed out of his usual school attire and into casual jeans and a white thermal shirt, and collapsed beside me into the sofa.
He reached for my hand and entwined his fingers with mine. "What do you think about spending Thanksgiving with me and my family?" he asked without taking his eyes away from the TV that was now showing a steaming hot pot of mashed potatoes.
My eyes widened and I turned my head to see that he had a smirk on his lips when he looked over at me. A smiled spread across my lips and I'm sure I had a sparkle in my eyes.
"I would absolutely love to! But… are you sure you want to introduce me to your family?" I said, worried about them finding out about me being his student and much younger than him.
He nodded his head, still smirking. "I'm positive. I want them to meet the girl I'm in love with."
I made a squeaking sound with excitement and I wrapped my arms around him, forcing him to lye down on the couch. He laughed out loud at my reaction, and wrapped his arms comfortably around me. When we both stopped laughing, he leaned his head up to reach my lips with his own. His kiss was soft and gentle. He dragged it out to the point where we had to pull away for a breath. The moment was heavenly.
After a few moments, Johnny looked over at the clock. "Oh, I should get the mail. I'll be right back," he said before quickly kissing me a few more times, and then carefully rolled out from underneath me.
When he returned, he filed through the small stack of bills and magazines, and once he saw what had arrived, he held onto the newspaper and returned to my side. He read the front page, and opened it to read the sports section. I got up to get a glass of water and then I sat back down to read some of the newspaper myself. I grabbed the local news section and glanced at random articles.
I turned the page with one hand and took a sip from my cup with the other. I coughed on a mouthful of water when I spotted a picture of myself in the top corner of the page. Johnny rubbed my back a little.
"Take it easy. Are you okay?"
I put the cup on the coffee table, and stood up, still holding the page and I read it out loud to him.
"Local teen, Mina Baker, is reported missing. Her father, Michael Baker, filed a missing person's report on Wednesday. When interviewed by a local news crew, Mr. Baker stated, 'I'm so worried. I can't sleep, I can't eat. I just want my baby safe and sound at home with me again'. There are no substantial leads for this case as of yet."
Hot tears of rage, sadness, and fear flowed down my cheeks, and I stood there staring at the black and white paper in my hands. I stared at the black and white school picture that tormented me with a smile. I couldn't stand to look at it anymore. In a split second, I was tearing the paper to shreds. I ripped at the paper until there was nothing else to rip. And when I was left with nothing and loud choked sob escaped my mouth and I collapsed on the floor with my face in my hands.
I heard Johnny stand and kneel down beside me. His arms wrapped around my body that trembled and shook. He made comforting shushing noises as he tried to calm me down.
"Shh, It'll be okay. He won't get you. I promise you. I won't let him take you away from me."
"I know… I'm just so… angry, that he has the guts to say that and make it out to be like he misses me and loves me when he nearly killed me. That… that son of a bitch!" I started to yell.
He just continued to hold me and keep me peaceful in his strong arms.
When I had cried all of my tears and I was finally serene, he picked me up like a bride and carried me to his bed. He lay me down on the soft mattress and rested beside me. He kept me in his arms, with my head on his beating heart.
"Yes my love?"
"Promise me you won't leave me?"
"I promise. I'll never leave you. Ever."
