Vanessa Palmer studied her friends. Even though she was a freshman at Michelin University, they had all befriended her.

"Are we losing you, Vanessa?" William, Will, Boyer called back to her.

She smiled and hurried to catch up with them. "No, I was just lost in my thoughts."

"A dangerous thing to do," Jake Berkely joked.

She grinned. "I know, especially for you."

The twins, Tina and Nicole Bryans, laughed. "She has you there," Nicole said.

Tina nodded. "Weren't you the one who nearly blew up our apartment last week?"

Jake smiled. "Aww…come on it wasn't that bad."

Will sighed. "Yeah after the fire department came in."

Jake mocked a punch and Will ducked. The girls just laughed at their antics.

Suddenly, a loud noise startled the group. Then the ground shook causing them all to lose their balance.

For a moment they all just stared in shock. Jake was the first to get back to his feet. The rest of them followed. They entered a small clearing and could clearly see the remains of an explosion.

"What happened?" Vanessa asked worriedly.

Jake shook his head. "I don't know."

"Hello," Will called. "Is anyone here?"

The only reply was the sound of the breeze blowing through the trees.

Tina glanced around. "I wonder what caused it."

Nicole nodded. "Yeah."

Vanessa shivered. "Maybe we should get out of here."

Tina and Nicole quickly agreed.

"First, let's make sure no one's here unconscious," Will suggested.

They quickly spread out and began to search.

None of them could have been prepared for the second explosion that rocked the ground.

Vanessa heard the loud sound of the explosion first. When the ground shook she fell, but it was strange. She felt as if she could only feel part of what was happening.

Tina reached out and grasped for her twin's hand as the explosion hit, but slowly their hands began to slip apart.

When the noise of the explosion hit Jake's ears, he fell forward and for several moments he couldn't see a thing.

Will heard the noise moments before he was thrown forward. As he lay against the cool dirt of the ground, his body felt weaker than ever.

This is a little different than my others stories, but I hope you'll enjoy it still! The prologue is a little short, but the chapters will be longer. I hope you enjoyed and please review:)
