John walked forward to the gravestone of Mai, the love of his life, and laid the rose down upon the grave. Tom and Sara stood behind him, tears running down their faces.
"I wish I would never have let her out of my sight," he said.
"There's nothing that you could have done," Sara said. "You need to stop blaming yourself."
"She's right you know," Tom added.
"Yeah, I guess."
"Something's still bothering you John," Sara accused. "What is it?"
"I'm sorry, but I just can't help but wonder what happened to the locket of the bear."
From the other end of the city, in a small orphanage, a baby let out a cry as the metal locket around his neck slammed against his forehead.
"Oh I wish that we could just take that off," one of the caregivers said, rushing forward.
"Don't you dare," the head nurse said. "We were given strict orders that the locket never be removed. We best follow that advice."
